What are Christmas loans?

Christmas loans are personal loans you can use for a variety of vacation expenses. Just like other types of personal loans, a Christmas loan can be secured or unsecured. Factors such as your credit score, income, and the lender you choose will determine your terms and eligibility. You’ll need good credit to get the lowest rates and best terms.

How does a Christmas loan work?

With a Christmas loan, you’ll receive a lump sum of money up front and pay it back over time, usually in fixed monthly installments.

Christmas loans are usually offered by online lenders and credit unions. Since each lender has their own eligibility criteria, rates, and terms, it’s a good idea to shop around and compare options.

Keep in mind that some Christmas loans, sometimes called Christmas loans with no credit check, are actually payday loans with exorbitant interest rates of 400% or more. That’s why you want to look for vacation loans that are traditional personal loans and cap their interest rates at 36%.

How much can you borrow with a Christmas loan?

Each lender has their own loan limits for Christmas loans. But in general, you will find that most of them range from $1,000 to $50,000. Your credit score, debt ratio and other factors will determine the amount you will be approved for. If you have good credit, you will probably be able to borrow more than someone with fair or poor credit.

Are you eligible for a Christmas loan?

Although the eligibility criteria for a vacation loan may vary by lender, some common requirements include:

  • Good credit — Unless it’s a no credit check Christmas loan, which is essentially a payday loan, you’ll probably need good to excellent credit. If you don’t have the best credit, you may be able to apply for a co-signer to increase your chances of approval.
  • Low debt-to-income ratio — Your debt-to-income ratio (DTI) is the amount you owe in monthly debt payments relative to your income. Most lenders look for a DTI of no more than 40%.
  • Verifiable income — Some lenders will have a minimum income requirement. Even if you come across one who doesn’t, chances are you’ll need to show proof of income so they know you’ll be able to repay the loan.

How to take out Christmas loans

If you want to take out a loan for Christmas, follow these steps:

  1. Check your credit. Visit AnnualCreditReport.com or another website that offers free credit reports to check your credit. This way you will know what types of holiday loans you could get approved for.
  2. Compare options. Since there are so many Christmas loans available to choose from, it’s important to get prequalified and explore offers from at least a few different lenders. When evaluating your options, be sure to compare rates, terms, and fees.
  3. Estimate loan costs. Before committing to a holiday loan, make sure you can afford it. You can use a personal loan calculator to do this. Indicate the amount you wish to borrow, your interest rate and your repayment term.
  4. Complete and submit an application. Apply for the holiday loan that fits your budget and your needs. You can usually do this online, but some lenders may allow you to complete the process in person.
  5. Get your funds. Depending on the lender, you may receive your funds within a day or two of approval. Most lenders distribute loans by direct deposit.

Advantages and disadvantages of Christmas loans

Like all financial products, Christmas loans have pros and cons to consider, including:

Advantages

Christmas loans offer a few potential benefits:

  • Flexibility – You can use Christmas loans to cover all types of holiday expenses, such as gifts, decorations, food, and travel.
  • Guarantee not required — Most holiday loans are unsecured, meaning you won’t have to provide collateral to receive them. That’s great news if you don’t want to put your home or car at risk.
  • Can repay your loan early — Most lenders do not charge prepayment penalties. Paying off your Christmas loan early can help you save on interest.
  • Chance to improve your credit — As long as you choose a lender who reports your payment history, you can use a vacation loan to build or improve your credit. Just make sure you make all your payments on time.

Disadvantages

Christmas loans also have some possible downsides to consider, such as:

  • Fewer options for bad credit — If you have fair or poor credit, it may be more difficult to get approved for a Christmas loan with attractive terms. You may have to settle for a higher interest rate.
  • No reward — Unlike many credit cards, vacation loans don’t come with rewards. You may miss cash back, travel points or other benefits.
  • Increase in debt — A vacation loan means you’ll have another payment to deal with. If you’re already struggling financially, you might want to think twice about withdrawing one.
  • Costs – Some lenders charge fees for holiday loans, such as origination fees or a prepayment penalty. These additional costs can add up to increase your debt burden.

What are the other ways to pay for Christmas gifts?

If you’re not interested in a Christmas loan, consider these alternatives to help pay for holiday expenses.

  • Plan ahead and save — Think about your spending well before the holiday season. This way you will have time to shop for them and be able to save money throughout the year.
  • Apps to buy now and pay later — A buy it now and pay later app will allow you to make purchases now and pay off the balance over time. Many of them won’t charge interest as long as you make your payments on time.
  • Credit card – A credit card might be an option, especially if you want to earn rewards. You can also apply for a card with an introductory offer of 0% APR. You won’t have to pay interest for a period of 12 to 21 months.

If you’re ready to be prequalified for a loan, Credible makes it quick and easy compare personal loan rates to find the right one for your unique situation.

A fall feast for the senses at Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge

0

Editor’s note: This is part of The Know, Staff Favorites series. Each week, we’ll give our take on the best Colorado has to offer when it comes to dining, shopping, entertainment, outdoor activities and more. (We’ll also show you some hidden gems).

I like scary movies and costumes but I don’t kiss them during daylight hours because I’m not a kid and my school didn’t tell me. I also don’t attend an office party where anyone would care that my hot dog costume didn’t fit (never did).

So what’s my favorite way to celebrate fall — me, a grumpy dad with a deep love of nature and, uh, a car?

Being outdoors, of course, which in Denver can include the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, a nearly 16,000-acre strip of land (formerly used to make chemical weapons) now home to bison, deer , prairie dogs galore and things with wings – including the majestic bald eagle. Like the nearby Bluff Lake Nature Center, it’s a magnet for birdwatching.

The land was once home to the Apache, Ute, Cheyenne, Comanche and Arapaho tribes as they followed large herds of bison and lived off the land, according to the refuge’s website. “Later, as the settlers moved west to start a new life, they began to grow crops and graze cattle.”

Knowing that, you can almost smell the history there. It’s a great excuse to talk about this story with your children.

My family and I live in northeast Denver, so it’s also an easy trip that keeps my kids away from their digital screens. They usually love it because they can sit in the back of our Subaru, rear-facing like I did in various wood-panel station wagons. Despite the encroaching development – you can see new housing development along its borders – the 11-mile driving loop from the refuge makes it easy to feel secluded, with gorgeous views over the Front Range and, once you’re really in inside the park, the feeling that you could be hundreds of miles away from it all.

It’s particularly attractive right now, and you don’t even have to get out of your car.

“In the fall, the coyotes are well camouflaged among the rust and golden grasses as they hunt from the edges of prairie dog towns,” according to the refuge’s website. It then lists white-tailed deer, migratory waterfowl (pintails, shovelers, red ducks and ring-necked ducks), horned owls, sandhill cranes. There are currently 330 species in total.

If you opt for the 20 miles of trails, you’ll see hikers and cyclists, archers and photographers. My kids love stopping by the Visitor’s Center, with its historical artifacts (defense computers?!) and animal dioramas. The park offers free nature programs and a Junior Ranger program. It feels more naturally lived in every year, given that it’s relatively new, having been established by an act of Congress in 1992. We’re lucky to have it.

The Rocky Mountain National Wildlife Refuge is located at 6550 Gateway Road in Commerce City. Learn more by calling 303-289-0930 or visiting fws.gov/refuge/rocky-mountain-arsenal for trail maps, times and more.

When we chase after our doggos to retrieve a stolen shoe or put them in their crates for the night, they seem to be trying to qualify for the Indianapolis 500. But most of the fastest dog breeds in the world aren’t trying. simply to escape us: they were bred specifically to huntflushing out vermin or competitive running aptitude tests (CAT).

The fastest ranked dog breeds on this list are easily average speeds of 30 to 40 mphand six of the top seven are greyhounds, using their keen eyes and sprinting abilities to hunt or run, says Jerry Klein, DVM, chief veterinarian for the American Kennel Club (AKC). “As a group of dogs, they share the characteristics of long legs, sleek streamlined bodies, deep chests for more lung space, and tucked-in sizes,” Klein explains. “Greyhound breeds are also some of the oldest, with Salukis and Afghan hounds being thousands of years old.”

No matter how agile and quick these dogs aren’t necessarily the best running mates. “Some breeds are known for being sprinters and others have the stamina to run long distances,” he says. “It is best to learn about and become aware of the peculiarities of breeds by reading their history and talking to responsible breeders.”

Although german shepherds and Dobermann Pinscher might give them a quick hunt at the dog park, here are the 10 fastest dog breeds in the world.

Additionally, they have a 270 degree field of view (by comparison, humans have 180), hence the origin of the term “greyhound”.

Their devoted, calm nature and ease with children makes them great family dogs, too. However, Klein says all greyhounds should have the ability to run freely in a large fenced yard at least once a day-10 minutes walk going around the block just won’t be enough, but after that, greyhounds are more than happy to be couch potatoes the rest of the day.

How to Choose the Best Loan Company for Bad Credit

A loan for bad credit is a personal loan for consumers in credit difficulty. It is relatively easy to apply and most lenders make quick loan decisions and offer quick funding turnarounds. You may also qualify for a bad credit loan if you have little or no credit history, and most lenders generally don’t limit how funds can be used.

These loan products usually come with high interest rates because they are risky for the lender. It is therefore important to shop around to find the best deal. But the interest rate on most bad credit loans is fixed, so the monthly payment amount won’t change. Loan proceeds are allocated in a lump sum and payable in equal monthly installments over a specified period.

Before applying for a loan for bad credit, understand the loan types to identify the best option and select a loan term that suits your financial situation. You also need to be prequalified, calculate loan costs, and evaluate lenders based on their reputation and the incentives they offer.

1. Know what type of bad credit loan you need

There are four main types of bad credit loans: secured, unsecured, payday and cash advance. Some require collateral, which makes them riskier for the borrower. Here’s what to know about each option:

  • Cash advance: This expensive option is available from some credit card issuers and involves withdrawing funds from your credit card’s available balance. The amount you borrow will be added to your existing account balance, but you can expect to pay a higher interest rate than that charged for purchases made with the card.
  • Secured loan: You will need collateral to get approved for a secured loan, and the lender may seize your property and sell it to recoup their losses if you are late on payment. The advantage is that these loan products are easier to obtain if you have bad credit. Also, the rate will usually be lower than what you would get with an unsecured loan.
  • Unsecured Loan: You won’t need collateral to qualify and could qualify for a hefty amount. The downside is that your interest rate will be higher with a lower credit score.
  • Payday loan: A payday loan can be used as a last resort if you cannot qualify for a personal loan or borrow from family or friends. It is a short term loan of $500 or less. It comes with an excessive interest rate, usually in the triple digits, and is payable on the day of your next payday. Moreover, they can lead to a dangerous cycle of debt if you are forced to extend the term of the loan.

2. Choose the loan terms that suit you best

Most bad credit loans have repayment periods of between two and five years (with the exception of payday loans, which are due on your next payday). It can be tempting to opt for an extended term loan product to get a more affordable payment. However, making the balance longer means you’ll pay more interest over time, making a shorter loan term ideal if you want to pay off what you owe faster and save a lot of interest.

Use a loan calculator to calculate the difference between monthly payments and interest charges for different repayment periods. This will give you a better idea of what to expect and help you choose the best loan term for your financial situation.

3. Pre-qualify or try to determine what your offers would be

Get prequalified online with the lenders you are considering to assess your chances of approval. The process is simple and can usually be completed online in minutes without hurting your credit score, as it only requires a soft credit check. If there’s a match, you can view potential loan offers, including loan amount, term, interest rate, and monthly payment, before moving forward with a formal request.

4. Calculate loan costs

Once you’re prequalified with a few lenders, compare the interest rates on offers for the same loan amount and repayment period to determine which are the most competitive. Evaluate each lender’s fees before making a formal request.
You might find that one lender charges a higher interest rate but far less in fees than another option with a much lower rate. And in this case, they might be the best choice to minimize overall borrowing costs.

5. Review customer experience and reviews

The lender should offer customer support by phone, online, or both at times that suit your busy schedule. It’s also essential that the application experience is seamless and that the lender allows you to manage your loan online.

Also, you should look online for reviews to get an idea of the level of service they offer. It’s not unusual to see a few negative reviews here and there, but most should indicate a satisfying customer experience. Otherwise, you may want to look elsewhere to borrow the funds you need.

6. Identify helpful perks

In addition to giving you a seamless application experience and fast funding, some bad credit lenders offer other perks to help improve your overall financial health. For example, you can have free access to your credit score directly from the online dashboard. Or there may be an assortment of financial tools, including calculators and educational articles, to provide the information needed to make sound financial decisions in the future.

7. Beware of predatory lenders and scams

Loans for bad credit are readily available from several financial institutions, both physical and online. Not all lenders are the same and some should be avoided. Some lenders may even be crooks.

Avoid lenders that aren’t registered to do business in your state, offer guaranteed approvals without a credit check, or require an upfront payment to approve you for a loan. It is equally important that they have a secure website and a physical address.

At the end of the line

Several loan options for bad credit could be suitable. But before applying for a loan, research loan types and shop around for quotes. When narrowing down your options, you also want to evaluate lenders based on their reputation, loan costs, terms, and customer service to find the best one for you.

While it may seem like some less popular breeds are relegated to living in the shadows, others like the Bull Terrier have had a chance to spend some time in the limelight. Just ask someone who remembers when MacKenzie skates was a household name.

“The Bull Terrier is often referred to as a stubborn ‘egg-head’. But the dogs don’t get much more playful and endearing than this breed,” says Travis Brosen, an animal expert for Animal Planetfamous dog trainer, host of My Big Pet Makeoverand judge on the Discovery Plus series dog games.

He explains that these dogs can be particularly affectionate and lovable. “If the Bull Terrier had a love language, it would be quality time. Given the proper training and structure, the breed will be the life of your next party,” says Brorsen.

If we’re being honest, we’ve all suffered the fate of having an unfortunate haircut at least once in our lives. In the case of some dog breeds, these awkward looks may be normal.

“The Chinese Crested is a breed of toy dog known for its unusual appearance”, Jeff Netzleydog trainer and founder of Beaches for dogs nearbyrecount Better life. “They are almost hairless, with only a few tufts of hair on their head, tail and feet. They also have wide open eyes which can startle them.”

However, these adorably goofy pups tend to shine when it comes to personality. “Despite their appearance, they are very affectionate and generally good with other dogs and people. Their lack of hair also makes shedding almost a problem,” Netzley says.

The old saying goes that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In the case of dogs, this makes some breeds controversial when it comes to their appearance.

“I personally disagree with this assessment, but the Borzoi is often considered one of the ugliest dog breeds,” says Daniel Caughillcanine expert and co-founder of The story of the dog. “These tall, slender dogs look like Greyhounds with a lot of scruple. They have lean bodies, long muzzles and an aloof personality that makes them a little clumsy and all the more adorable because of it.”

Since all puppies are basically cute, sometimes it can be hard to put your finger on what makes a dog a little clumsy. But for some unique breeds, the answer might be “all of the above”.

“The Xoloitzcuintli – sometimes called Xolo – is one of the oldest dog breeds with a history dating back to the Aztec Empire. But what really sets these dogs apart today is the lack of hair that gives them a unique appearance and makes stroking them a real experience,” Georgina Ushi PhilipsVDD, practicing veterinarian and Florida-based writer with NotABully.org, recounts Better life. “However, most Xolos have a light layer of hair on their heads, which makes them even more interesting!”

Even so, experts say anyone who spends time with one of the dogs will find their looks are overshadowed by their demeanor. “The Xolo may look scary, but this breed has extreme devotion to its owner,” says Brorsen.

Wrinkles can be a strangely stigmatizing part of human beauty standards, but it seems the perspective can sometimes extend to dogs. Maybe that’s why adorable pet-faced breeds like the Shar-Pei can sometimes be called funny. But despite their distinctly pruned appearance, experts say they tend to have other positive qualities as well.

“The Shar-Pei has many unique traits, but for pet owners who don’t like a barking dog, this one’s for you,” says Borsen. “Fiercely protective but calm with family members, the Shar-Pei is the dog that never really grew into its wrinkles. And don’t be fooled by this breed’s aloofness: for the most part, they are also smart as can be!”

Bedlington Terrier

Having straight, woolly coats can be a big plus for dog owners looking for a breed that doesn’t shed too much. And according to experts, a unique-looking dog literally takes on the idea of being a Bull Terrier in sheep’s clothing.

“The Bedlington Terrier is a shaggy-haired dog breed that originated in England. They are known for their distinctive lamb-like appearance and love of digging holes,” Netzley explains.

“While not everyone’s cup of tea when it comes to looks, Bedlington Terriers are intelligent, active and affectionate dogs that make great companions,” he adds. “If you can get past their unusual appearance, you’ll find they’re one of the best breeds around.”

The amount of hair or fur on a dog can range from overly shaggy to non-existent. It’s no surprise, then, that breeds that fall into the latter category are often considered to have unique looks.

“The Peruvian Inca Orchid is unusual in that it is an almost hairless dog. It is also one of the most unique breeds, due to its wrinkled skin, large ears and of his oversized head,” says Netzley.

Just make sure you have enough in the bank if you’ve fallen in love with the look of this unique dog style. “They are also one of the most expensive dog breeds, costing up to $5,000, and require sunscreen and grooming to protect their skin,” Netzley warns. “This breed is not for everyone, but those who appreciate their distinct appearance may find a lot to love. They are also known to be extremely affectionate and friendly dogs.”

There are many people who embrace the idea of ”big hair” as a way of life. Who says dogs shouldn’t be praised for the same style choice?

“The Puli has a very unique coat that grows in tight ringlets. As a result, this breed is covered from head to toe in long, luscious locks!” Phillips said. “When their coat is allowed to fully grow out over the years, they can actually look like a mop head happily running towards you!”

He also scores bonus points for his personality. “The Puli is an active, intelligent breed that loves to play and needs lots of exercise,” says Netzley. “They can be wary of strangers and make excellent watchdogs.”

In a pinch? Here are the four loans you can get the fastest

When you’re in a bind and need cash fast, it’s important to know what your options are. There are different types of loans that you can get relatively quickly, depending on your needs. Before taking out a personal loan, it’s important to understand the different types of personal loans and find the one that’s right for you. Here are four of the most common.

1. Credit cards

If you have good credit, you may be able to get a cash advance on your credit card. This is usually a quick and easy process, but it will come with high interest rates. So if you are able to repay the loan quickly, this could be a good option. Cash advances can be very useful in an emergency situation when you need money immediately.

More: Prequalify for a personal loan without affecting your credit score

Another benefit of using a credit card for a cash advance is that you may already have money available on your line of credit that you can use. This can be useful if you don’t want to take out a new loan or use other assets as collateral. However, using a credit card for a cash advance also has some drawbacks. First, as mentioned earlier, interest rates on cash advances are usually very high. This means that if you don’t repay the loan quickly, you could end up paying a lot of interest. Also, most credit cards have limits on how much you can borrow as a loan. So if you need a large sum of money, this might not be the best option.

2. Payday Loans

Payday loans are one of the fastest ways to get cash, but they come with high interest rates and fees. They’re usually only for small amounts of money, so if you need a lot of cash quickly, they’re probably not the best option. However, if you just need a little extra money to last you until your next paycheck, a payday loan might work. Payday loans are not ideal, Nevertheless. These are short-term, high-interest loans, usually due by your next payday in a single amount. Currently, 37 states regulate payday loans due to their high costs.

Payday loans are usually for $500 or less and are due on your next payday. Depending on state laws, people can get payday loans online or through a storefront lender. A typical two-week payday loan can have annual percentage rates (APR) as high as 400%. By comparison, credit card APRs can range from 12% to 30%. Payday loans should be considered an option of last resort.

3. Pawnbroker

Pawnbrokers are short-term loans secured by an object of value that people bring to a pawnbroker. As they are backed by the value of the object, they are cheaper than payday loans but are more expensive than a conventional loan. Pawnbrokers are regulated by the government. This type of loan is ideal for people who need cash quickly without a credit check.

Loan terms vary by pawnbroker. People can use valuables, such as jewelry or electronics, to get a loan based on the value of the item. No credit check is required. Those who may not qualify for a traditional loan can consider a pawnbroker. Once the loan amount is paid off, you will receive your items. If you don’t pay it back, the pawnbroker can seize the secured items.

4. Securities Lending

Title loans are another quick way to get cash. They are short lived secured personal loans supported by your car. Financial institutions put a lien on your car. If you are unable to repay the loan, they can seize your car, as it is used as collateral. Title loans generally do not consider your credit and can be approved quickly. However, a title loan is very expensive, with an APR of around 300%.

These are four of the most common types of loans that you can get relatively quickly. Consider which one best suits your needs and compare interest rates and fees before you apply. Understand how these personal loans work can help you make a smarter decision.

‘Feeding his soul, his senses and his belly’: A sick Manitoba dog living off his bucket list – Winnipeg

0

A local dog is living his dreams thanks to his owner creating a “to do list” due to the dog’s fragile health.

Trevor, an 11-year-old husky, has a cancerous growth on his leg, and owner Aimee Fortier says she wants to make the most of her time.

“As a puppy he was diagnosed with floating patellas and a heart murmur and then had four surgeries. Since then he has lost both ACLs so we jokingly call him our $80,000 dog “said Fortier.

“For the past few years we’ve known there were cancer cells, and in January that’s when the lump on his leg first appeared…and since then it’s been growing quite rapidly .”

Fortier said the only surgical option is amputation, but due to Trevor’s advanced age — for a dog — and other health issues, that’s probably not a viable option.

“Basically it was about saying we don’t know how long we have with him. … So what are the things he likes? Let’s make sure we do as many of those things as possible.

When Fortier and Trevor visited Global News to talk about the project, another item was crossed off Trevor’s list: appearing on live television.

Since it’s unclear how much time and mobility Trevor has left, completing some items on the list took a bit of creativity. With no snow in the summer, Fortier said they had to make do with snow outside hockey arenas that had been cleared by a zamboni, in case Trevor couldn’t hold out until winter. .

Breeds have little influence on dog behavior

0

(Photo credit: Apple Tree House/Getty Images)

We are all aware of the age-old stereotypes that surround certain dog breeds, for better or for worse.

We can often call Golden and Labrador Retrievers happy, but not so bright. Unfortunately, many consider Pit Bulls and other breeds of bullies to be inherently mean or susceptible to snapping. However, many of their fans will tell you that these breeds are just big softies.

Some consider Chihuahuas and other small breeds to be less trainable. They might allow them to get away with canine behavior that would not be acceptable to a German Shepherd.

But how many of these preconceptions about our dogs are true?

With Dog Behavior, Breed Isn’t What Matters

A UMass Chan Medical School study of more than 2,000 purebred and mixed breed dogs, published in Science, suggests that behavioral traits in dogs are not breed specific.

“Although ‘friendliness’ is the trait we commonly associate with Golden Retrievers, we have found that the defining criteria of a Golden Retriever are its physical characteristics – the shape of its ears, the color and quality of its fur, its size — not whether it’s friendly,” said lead author Elinor Karlsson, PhD, associate professor of molecular medicine at UMass Chan and director of the Vertebrate Genomics Group at the Broad Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University from Harvard. “Although genetics plays a role…a specific breed of dog is not a good predictor of these traits.”

Genetic differences between breeds primarily affected the genes that control physical traits – far more than breed differences affected dog behavior.

“The majority of behaviors that we consider to be characteristics of specific modern dog breeds are most likely the result of thousands of years of evolution from wolves, to wild dogs, to domestic dogs, and finally to modern breeds,” said Karlson.

“These inherited traits predate our concept of modern dog breeds by thousands of years. Each breed inherited the genetic variation carried by these ancient dogs, though not always at exactly the same frequencies. Today, these differences manifest by personality and behavioral differences observed in some dogs of the same breed, but not all.

Preparing your dog for success, regardless of breed

It may be that some of our struggles with our pets are based on our own typing. Many small dog parents think their dogs can’t be trained, but there’s little evidence to suggest this is true – it’s more likely that, because dog parents can easily “control” small dogs, we just consider them less of a problem. than a Rottweiler rushing or barking. However, that doesn’t mean your dog’s breed is irrelevant.

Nutritional differences are common between dog breeds, so you can help your pup by researching and asking a veterinarian what is the best food for him. The same goes for exercise requirements; your Australian Shepherd mix will probably need a longer jog than the neighbor’s English Bulldog.

Research your dog’s breed and what others are saying about it. But don’t let it entirely shape your perception of your puppy. They are still an individual, and they can easily have differences in temperament and personality from what the breed is known for.

Nine dog breeds at higher risk for heat stroke – and what you can do to prevent it | Pugs, Bulldogs and more.

0

Heavy dogs have also shown an increased risk of heatstroke. It is important to note that this group includes both obese dogs and large or muscular dogs. Large dogs, in general, were more likely to develop heatstroke than dogs under 10kg, with giant breed dogs (weighing over 50kg) being three times more likely to develop heatstroke.

Dogs over the age of two were also at greater risk, with older dogs (over 12) being most likely to develop heatstroke. This is because young dogs may be more active, while older dogs have reduced cardiovascular and respiratory function and may struggle to get rid of excess heat as efficiently.

The study included over 900,000 UK dogs and used historical data, anonymized veterinary recordstherefore included approximately 10% of the estimated dog population in the UK. In 2016, the death rate from heat stroke cases in the UK was 14%, meaning that one in seven dogs with heat stroke died from the condition.

The number of dogs suffering from heatstroke was relatively low, just 0.04% of the population (or one dog in 2,500). However, this study used data from 2016 and temperature records have since been broken. The intensity and frequency of heat waves are expected to increase in the future.

There is a huge range of books about the senses for children, and chances are we read a lot of these books when we were little. The five human senses are also one of the subjects of our first science lessons. But as we grow among the rich sensory experiences the world has to offer, the mechanisms that enable us to access those experiences fade into the background – unless they are part of a field of study or a very specific profession that we choose for ourselves.

How we process different types of stimuli can be as fascinating as the experiences themselves. A knowledge of how the human senses work – and the effects of biological, genetic, environmental and cultural factors on them – opens our eyes to the individuality and fragility of our sensory perceptions, helping us to develop a deeper appreciation for the wonders of the world. around us. Here is a list of eight books that demystify the human senses and give their readers new ways to look at the world.

Dogs have been companions to humans for thousands of years – and we’re talking, like, almost 10,000 years. And throughout this time, a handful of native Japanese dogs emerged and became companions to people all over the world.

There are 10 distinct Japanese dog breeds that you should know about in case you come across one of these dogs at your local shelter or adoption center. But there are six races which are “Nihon-ken” or “Nippo”, meaning they are native in Japan. These breeds are the Akita Inu, Hokkaido, Kai Ken, Kishu, Shikoku, and Shiba Inu. Other breeds commonly found in Japan are not necessarily native to the country, but have been imported from other countries over time.

Tatyana Kuznetsova/Shutterstock.com

Akitas were originally excellent hunters. They have webbed feet that allow them to navigate snowy terrain with acumen, and their front dew claws are like ice picks to help them get a grip when emerging from icy water. At one time in Japanese history, Akitas were only owned by the Imperial family, but now Akitas are loved by people all over the world.

2. Hokkaido Inu

Happy Monkey/Shutterstock.com

Hokkaido Inus are a medium-sized breed and will reach an average weight of 45-60 pounds at full size.

3. Shiba Inus

Sergiy Palamarchuk/Shutterstock.com

Shiba Inus have been part of Japanese culture since 7000 BC and were originally hunting dogs. It is very common to encounter this breed of dog in Japan today, but they almost disappeared after World War II due to the bombings in Japan as well as distemper. Shibas are more like cats than dogs because they spend a lot of time cleaning themselves.

4. Shikoku

Shikoku dogs come from the mountains of Kochi prefecture on the island of Shikoku and were historically good at hunting wild boar. These dogs may have red; black and beige; or black, red and white coats, which help them blend into their winter surroundings.

5. Tosa Inu

The Tosa Inu is the largest of all Japanese dog breeds. Tosas can weigh between 100 and 200 pounds, and their love and loyalty to their family runs deep. Tosas are unwavering and patient with those they love.

6. Kai Ken

7.Kishu

10. Japanese Terrier

alekta/Shutterstock.com

The Japanese terrier is the first breed of terrier originating in Japan. They are a small breed, weighing between 10 and 30 pounds, they are energetic and very fond of play and activity.

These breeds, although native or common in Japan, are adoptable anywhere in the world. If you have your heart set on saving one of these breeds, start with your local shelters and refuges, like New York Shiba Rescueor discover the adoptable dogs on animal finder.

If you decide to adopt a Japanese dog breed, know that you are adopting an incredibly unique and fun pup that will stay with you and your family forever. And it certainly helps that they’re all cute too!

Early Learning Center Little Senses Lights and Sounds Shape Sorter Recall

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Thousands of children’s toys sold on Amazon are being recalled because young children can choke on one of the parts.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall involves the Little Senses Lights and Sounds shape sorter toy from the Early Learning Center. Approximately 9,300 units of this toy were sold on Amazon from October 2020 to August 2022.

The CPSC says the toy has a white and gray base, contains six colored and shaped pieces with lights, and emits sounds and music. “Little Senses” is printed on the side of the base. The toy was marketed for children aged 6 to 36 months.

The recall was initiated because the red cube may separate or detach during use, releasing the small white ball inside. This poses a choking hazard to infants. So far, no incidents have been reported in the United States.

11 Pairs of Dog Breeds People Always Confuse But Are *Not* Identical

0

Have you ever complimented someone’s Bichon Frize only to be told they were actually a Bolognese? How embarrassing! The thing is, many dog breeds get confused all the time. This makes sense, considering tons of dogs have been developed by combining existing breeds into something new. Additionally, many breeds come in a wide variety of colors and coats, causing them to pass for different dogs (for example, Golden Retrievers range from bright white to deep red). Grooming can also totally change a dog’s appearance. So stop blaming yourself! Check out these breeds that people confuse all the time, but aren’t the same.

60 Funny Dog Halloween Costumes For The Dumbest Pup You Know

How to identify dog breeds

There are hundreds of dog breeds officially recognized worldwide. The American Kennel Club recognizes 200 dog breeds to date. The best way to identify them is to check their breed standard and parent club. But, if you don’t have time to go over the possible breed standards for every puppy you see, here are some clues to help you figure out what you’re looking for:

Note that it may take a few introductions to really understand what breed you are dealing with, as personalities are an important aspect of purebred dogs. Speaking of which, this list focuses on the purebred versions of each breed. Encountering a dog that looks like one type of dog but has a unique characteristic (like a German Spitz-style tail on an Australian Shepherd, which usually doesn’t have a tail) means multiple breeds are in play.

How to Stop Dogs from Digging Because Your Yard Looks Like a Whack-a-Mole Game

1. Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes

siberian husky

GlobalP/Sergey Nazarov

  • Height: 20 – 24 inches

  • Lester: 30 – 60 pounds

  • Personality: social, loyal

  • Activity level: High

  • Coat: Double, white with black, brown, gray or red

  • Life expectancy: 12-14 years old

Alaskan Malamute

Huskies and Malamutes look eerily similar as they both evolved in regions with harsh winter climates. However, one was not bred from the other – they are separate breeds! The main differences are that Malamutes are larger, heavier dogs with spitz-style tails (curly tails). Huskies are smaller in size and usually have brushed (straight) tails. It’s also worth noting that Huskies can have blue eyes (or one blue eye and one brown eye), while Malamutes only have brown eyes. Both sled dogs excel in running and are social, but the AKC says Huskies crave speed and Malamutes are better at hauling heavy loads.

2. American Eskimo Dogs (Standard) and Samoyeds

American Eskimo Dog (standard)

Samoyed

A standard-sized American Eskimo dog looks a lot like a Samoyed. The main difference here will be the coat and the size. Samoyeds are taller than Eskies (the smallest they can be is about as tall as an Eskie will get) and their coats are longer thanks to a dense inner layer of fur. Both breeds were used for work, although Samoyeds are classified as working dogs and the Eskies are in the non-sporting group. Eskies can have more playful and goofy personalities (they have a history as circus performers), while Samoyeds can be slightly more serious. Regardless, both of these breeds are loving pets that are ideal for families.

3. Bearded Collies and Old English Sheepdogs

bearded collie

old english sheepdog

The key question here is, “How fluffy is this dog?” If the answer is “Rather fluffy”, you’re dealing with an Old English Sheepdog. Bearded Collies probably have just as much coat, but they are flatter and straighter and feel silkier to the touch. Although similar in size, Old English Sheepdogs are bulkier and can weigh almost twice as much. Both breeds evolved in the rugged terrain of Scotland and Britain as herding dogs, making them intelligent and energetic pets.

4. Bichon Frises and Bolognese

Bichon Frize

Bolognese

Now we’re entering tiny, fluffy white dog territory. It’s easy to confuse these buggers because they’re all sweet companions with similar coat styles and personalities. To tell Bichon Frises and Bolognese apart, check their size and coat style. It’s easier if dog parents let their puppies’ coats grow out. Bichons have puffy double coats (these are the round, white balls you see at dog shows). Bolognese coats are much more wavy, almost frizzy, but soft to the touch. While Bichons are heavier than Bolognese, both have tails that curl over their backs and semi-floppy ears. If the pup in question has been shrunk down to a few inches, look at its personality for more clues. Bichons tend to be much more outgoing, playful, and energetic.

5. Coton de Tulears and Maltese

Cotton Tulear

Maltese

Two other little white dogs! The Coton de Tulear and the Maltese have a similar coat when they grow up, although the Maltese tends to be silkier and straighter. Coton de Tulear coats – when long – are slightly wavy and puffy. Of the small pups we’ve covered so far, Maltese are definitely the smallest. They are companion dogs that can be a bit more reserved around new people. Notice their little black nose and black eyes! Both breeds are known to be affectionate and trainable dogs.

6. Beagles and harriers

Beagle

Harrier

Beagles and Harriers are smaller than american foxhound (which can weigh up to 75 pounds), but it’s easy to confuse the three breeds because of their coat color. Beagles are best known for their short, smooth black, white, and tan coats. You can also find them in shades of tan, red, lemon, and blue. Harriers, in addition to being almost twice as large as beagles, have less coat variation. Both are dogs with strong hunting and prey instincts that aren’t afraid to alert you to intruders.

7. Lakeland Terriers and Welsh Terriers

lake burrow

Welsh Terrier

Terriers are known for their confidence and rambling personalities, and Lakeland and Welsh Terriers are no exception. These incredibly similar dogs have all the characteristics of traditional terriers, including unlimited energy. The differences are minimal. Lakes are smaller and come in a wider variety of coat colors, including blue, black, tan, red, and wheat. Welsh Terriers are almost always black and tan. These two were both raised in england and they are thought to be descendants of the Old English Black and Tan Terriers, just like the Airedale Terrier (a much larger dog). A noticeable difference in personality is that the Welsh Terrier can learn commands better; his story is about hunting badgers and foxes. Lakeland Terriers were also bred to hunt foxes as part of their sheep herding routine, so they tend to be a bit more free-spirited.

If you see a small terrier with a white, black and tan wire-like coat, chances are you’re looking at a Wire Fox Terrier! They are about the same size as Lakelands and Welsh and still have white in their coat.

8. Norfolk Terriers and Norwich Terriers

norfolk terrier

norwich terrier

Much the same? These dogs are basically twins. Bred to hunt rats and rodents, Norwich and Norfolk terriers were actually considered the same breed. The AKC finally accepted each as a unique dog in 1979. One of the only ways to tell them apart is by their ears. Norfolk ears droop and Norwich ears point up.

9. Scottish Deerhounds and Irish Wolfhounds

Scottish hunting dogs

Irish Greyhounds

As some of the largest and most regal dogs in the canine kingdom, these dogs have many similarities. First of all, their names tell us a lot about them. Scottish Deerhounds have roamed the highlands of Scotland for thousands of years, killing wild red deer. Irish Wolfhounds are equally ancient and were reliable and courageous wolf hunters. They tend to be slightly larger than Scottish Deerhounds, although females of both breeds are smaller than males. To tell them apart, look at the colors of their coat. Irish Wolfhounds have lighter shades like cream, silver, and white.

10. Shetland Sheepdogs and Collies

Shetland Sheepdogs

Collie

The biggest difference between Shetland Sheepdogs and Collies is size. If you come across a dog over 16 inches and it looks like a Collie, it’s probably a Collie. Shetland Sheepdogs, although they may have the same coloring and length, fluffy coats like collies, are much smaller dogs. They may also be more excited to see you. Collies, on the other hand, are large, muscular canines that can have a long, rough coat or a short, smooth coat. Both can be multiple colors, such as black, white, tan, blue merle, and sable (which is a combination of brown and black).

11. Whippets and Italian Greyhounds

Whippet

italian greyhounds

Like Shelties and Collies, these two will be easier to tell apart if you see them side by side. Whippets grow larger than Italian Greyhounds, which rarely exceed 14 pounds and prefer to be carried rather than walked. Both, however, are dogs that like to run (and can run fast). Italian Greyhounds can bark more than Whippets, and Whippets tend to prefer more outdoor play time than Italian Greyhounds. Either way, you are signing up for a passionate companion who will love you dearly.

It’s no surprise that the Puli dog and his iconic dreadlocks made our list of the most unique dogs. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), “the coat natural cords are woolly, dense and weather resistant. Usually the dogs are black, charcoal or white and weigh between 25 and 35 pounds.

“These dogs look like smaller versions of Komondors as they also have long fur that locks together and resembles human ‘locs’,” notes Courtney Jacksonveterinarian and founder of The summary of pets. “They come from Hungary and are mainly used as herding dogs.” For this reason, their fur is there to protect them from the elements. This is also why they are so affectionate, good with people, and easy to train.

“Also known as the Arabian Hound, Gazelle or Persian Greyhound, [Salukis] are sighthounds (meaning they hunt by sight rather than scent),” Jackson says. “They look like sighthounds and are closely related to the Afghan Hound in the United States, [but] they are bred mainly in the Middle East.”

What makes this breed unique, however, is their “beautiful flowing locks of hair around the ears and tail,” notes Patrick Holmboechief veterinarian for Cooper Pet Care. He also explains that Salukis were bred to race, so they require more exercise than other breeds.

The breed is commonly referred to as “the naked dog,” says Travis Brosen, an animal expert for Animal Planetfamous dog trainer, host of My Big Pet Makeoverand judge on the Discovery Plus series dog games. “This greyhound hails from Peru and is both intelligent and affectionate. The Inca is great with families and fun fact: you guessed it, he doesn’t shed a lot!” The only place you might see hair on the Peruvian Inca Orchid is on their head, “where they have a little tuft of fur that looks like a natural mohawk,” Jackson notes.

The AKC explains that the breed available in three sizes, ranging from 10 inches tall to just over two feet. This dog is also agile and alert, but may not behave well around other small animals.

Another hairless breed is the Xoloitzcuintle (or Xolos for short), native to Mexico. “Evidence of this breed has been found among the ruins of the Mayan and Toltec tribes,” shares Daniel Caughillco-founder of The story of the dog. “Often referred to as perro pelón mexicano (Mexican hairless dog), dogs of this breed can be born with or without fur, sometimes in the same litter.”

With a wrinkled face, athletic body, and mottled skin, this dog is definitely one of a kind. While you don’t have to worry about shedding or grooming, their hairless bodies do require extra care, “like winter coats and sunscreen,” notes Iram Sharmaa veterinarian and writer at PupVine.

Bedlington Terrier

Named after the town in eastern England they hail from, Bedlington Terriers are agile, athletic, and intelligent sighthounds. They” have very unique fur and color [and] are gray, blue or even tan in color,” explains Erin MastopietroCEO of dope dog.

Their curly, lamb-like fur is definitely what sets them apart, and it also makes them hypoallergenic, as they don’t shed much. Plus, “they can be perfect cuddly partners since their fur is super soft and thick,” Mastopietro notes. Their tasseled ears only add to their teddy bear appearance. But you will want to note that Bedlington Terriers’ fast growing fur should be trimmed every two months and brushed once or twice a week, according to the AKC.

This dog doesn’t just have a friendly face; the AKC gives the breed the highest scores for “loving with family” and “good with other dogs”. Also known as the Dutch Sheepdog, Schapendoes originated in the Netherlands. In fact, the “does” part of their name means “swamp”, as they are “swampy parts of Holland”, says Brorsen.

This breed is visually unique because it “sports an amazing beard,” Brorsen notes. But it’s not very well known either. As the AKC explains, “Schapendoes were everywhere in the Netherlands in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but their numbers dwindled considerably when Border Collies were imported.” After World War II, the breed was revived, but many people still haven’t heard of it.

There are several unique aspects to this breed. First, their black and brown coats and brindle markings earned them the nickname “Tiger Dogs,” Jackson notes. Additionally, she explains that Kai Kens are “one of the six protected breeds in Japan” and are considered “national monuments” in the country.

Kai Kens are a rare breed, even in Japan, says the AKC. Although originally bred as hunting dogs, they are extremely affectionate and loyal to their owners and are known to be highly intelligent.

This skinny sighthound is so named because it originated in ancient Egypt. According to Pharaoh Hound Club of America.

The breed is recognizable by its “elegant frame and huge ears,” notes Linda SimonMVB, MRCVS, A consultant veterinarian at FiveBarks. She says they generally enjoy good health, but “they have very thin skin and sparse coats, so they don’t handle cold temperatures well.” Another thing to consider is that although they are incredibly affectionate, they are still hounds by nature and love to run and require a decent amount of exercise.

The word “papillon” means butterfly in French, and this breed is so named because its big ears and long hair make it look like its namesake, explains Jennifer Browns, DVM, MPVM at PetSmart. “They are known for their intelligence, agility and long average lifespan of over 15 years,” she says. Bruns adds that the Butterflies are fiery and fun.

What’s also interesting about this dog is that it is “one of the oldest toy dog breeds [and] have been depicted in artwork dating back to the 16th century,” according to PetMD. They are considered great pets, but you won’t be surprised to know that their long, silky coats are high maintenance.

Doodles in general are probably one of the most common breeds. Just think about how many Goldendoodles you’ve probably seen recently. But there are other Poodle crosses that many people don’t even know exist.

Christos Philippouowner and trainer Delaware K9 Academy, says that from what he sees, “the current craze is definitely the Doodle.” Some of the unique Doodles he has worked with include the Great Danoodle, Great Dane, and Poodle (pictured above); Saint Berdoodle, Saint Bernard and Poodle; and Schnoodle, Schnauzer and Poodle.

Likewise, Madelyn Harrisdog specialist and writer for doodle dog club, says that one of the most unusual breeds she has encountered is the Dalmadoodle, a mix of Dalmation and Poodle. “They are known for their unique and distinctive appearance, which includes fluffy doodle hair with Dalmatian spots!” she shares.

Although Harris says Dalmadoodles are “the ideal family dog”, Philippou warns that crossbreeding isn’t always the best option. “These Doodle breeds are often bred with sub-par genetics, which causes more serious anxiety issues,” he explains. He also says people turn to Doodles because they’re looking for hypoallergenic dogbut there are many other breeds that are ideal for allergy sufferers.

Some of the best dog-owner matches happen when the personalities are similar. According to experts, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels may be the answer for anyone who tends to be a bit of a couch potato.

“Equestrians love to cuddle with their owners, aren’t overly athletic and take short rides easily. All good things for a (somewhat) lazy owner!” said Patrick Holmboechief veterinarian for Cooper Pet Care. “Plus, guinea pigs are super affectionate and not too difficult to train. Finally, their small size makes everything a little easier compared to a big dog.”

Even though small breeds can be quite energetic, some high-spirited puppies still make a great match for owners who like to spend their days relaxing by hitting the dog park. Vets say moths are small enough to handle most lifestyles without hampering your lifestyle too much.

“These little guys are extremely energetic, but they only need about 15 minutes of activity a day to stay happy and healthy,” certified veterinarian Melissa M. Brock recount Better life. “That means that while they love to play catch or walk around with their humans, they’re also more than happy to hang out at home with you all day!”

Despite their rough appearance, the natural build of Bulldogs makes them excellent couch companions with relatively minimal effort. Coincidentally, this may also make it a good choice for new dog owners.

“English Bulldogs have short legs, bulky bodies and short muzzles that make it harder to breathe, meaning they’ll likely be ready for a nap after less than 15 minutes of exercise,” Georgina Ushi PhilipsVDD, practicing veterinarian and Florida-based writer with NotABully.org, recounts Better life. “While this breed will require an owner to remain alert to potential health issues, this breed is more than happy to spend most of the day hanging out on the couch.”

Just because a breed is in the working group doesn’t mean they can’t relax. Besides being relatively intelligent and easy to train, experts say a Swiss dog can still be quite aloof when circumstances call for it.

“For a larger breed, you probably can’t beat the Bernese Mountain Dog,” suggests Holmboe. “They are very quiet – some might call them lazy – and love nothing more than a nap indoors.”

However, he does mention a caveat: “Their large size and long coat mean a bit more maintenance than a smaller breed in terms of grooming. But if you like big dogs, you can’t go wrong here. .”

“As a short-legged pup, Basset Hounds will be happy to join you for a brisk walk or a play session, but they don’t need much else when it comes to building requirements. matter of exercise,” says Phillips. “Basset Hounds are also very affectionate, making them a great lazy day companion.”

Loans in case of difficulty: what is it?

Common Types of Financial Hardship Loans

Although hardship loans come in a variety of forms, each can be used to cover unavoidable expenses. But remember that not all options will suit your situation. Consider the pros and cons of each to choose the best one for you.

Unsecured Personal Hardship Loans

An unsecured hardship loan is a type of personal loan which does not require a guarantee. Instead, lenders will determine how much you can borrow by evaluating your credit score and financial situation. If you have poor credit, you may find it difficult to qualify for a difficult unsecured personal loan, as most lenders have strict requirements.

Advantages

Using an unsecured personal loan during a difficult time can have several advantages. The first is that you don’t need a valuable item to use as collateral. You also won’t have to worry about the lender repossessing any collateral if you fail to repay the loan.

The inconvenients

Like any type of financing, unsecured loans also have some disadvantages. Since you don’t need collateral to secure the loan, your lender will take on more risk. And the more risk the lender is exposed to, the higher your interest rate and annual percentage rate (APR). This option could therefore be more expensive than the alternatives.

Secured Personal Hardship Loans

Unlike an unsecured personal loan, a secured loan requires some form of collateral. As a result, most lenders will have less stringent qualification guidelines, which will likely make it easier for borrowers with low credit ratings to get approved.

Advantages

The main advantages of a secured personal loan are its lower interest rates, longer terms and larger loan amounts. These benefits are possible because secured loans help mitigate some of the lender’s risk, as mentioned earlier.

The inconvenients

On the other hand, using collateral means that the lender can claim your property as their own and sell it to recover their losses if you cannot make the payments. Simply put, a secured financial hardship loan can expose you to more risk than an unsecured loan.

Home Equity Loans

You may have heard of home equity loans used to fund a home improvement project, but did you know you can also use them for emergencies? If you own your home and have significant equity, you can convert some of it into cash if you’re in dire straits.

Advantages

Home equity loans offer fixed interest rates that are generally lower than personal loans. Home equity loans also use longer loan terms, which means paying off the loan could be easier. The more time you have to repay what you have borrowed, the lower the monthly payments will be.

The inconvenients

This type of loan could unfortunately mean a lot of debt. A second payment can be difficult to manage if you’re already struggling to pay your mortgage. Also, home equity loans use your home as collateral. So if you default, you could lose your home to foreclosure.

401(k) Hardship Withdrawal

Depending on your situation, you may be able to take out a short-term loan from your 401(k) retirement plan. Most employers offer this option for specific purposes, such as:

  • Repair a primary residence
  • Avoid seizure or eviction
  • Reimbursement of eligible medical bills
  • Financing a university degree
  • Support for funeral expenses

Before choosing this option, discuss your situation with your plan administrator to ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria.

Advantages

Borrowing from your retirement account could help you avoid taking out high-interest loans or racking up credit card debt. Plus, you don’t need to meet any lender’s requirements or have your credit history checked to access the funds.

The inconvenients

You may be taken to pay a penalty or taxes if you withdraw from your 401(k). This option could also hurt your future retirement plans if you don’t repay what you’ve withdrawn quickly enough.

Alternative payday loans

Payday loans are notorious for their predatory lending practices and can cause a vicious cycle of debt. Fortunately, many credit unions and online lenders offer alternative payday loans (sometimes called PALs). These loans come with short terms, typically one year or less, and low borrowing limits.

Advantages

You can use a PAL to quickly cover a last-minute bill without applying for a loan from a payday lender. Also, this type of hardship loan might be more affordable than an unsecured personal loan.

The inconvenients

The short amount of time you have to repay the borrowed amount means that your monthly loan payments could be higher than expected. APRs for PALs can also be extremely high, especially compared to home equity loans or secured personal loans.

Peer-to-peer lending

Over the past decade, peer-to-peer lending platforms have grown in popularity due to their accessibility. A peer-to-peer (P2P) loan is similar to borrowing money from a family member or friend, except the people lending you money can be anyone using the platform.

Advantages

P2P loans generally use low interest rates to ensure affordability. Borrowers with little or no credit can also use this option as the requirements are more flexible than with a traditional personal loan. Finally, some P2P lenders may require investors to meet specific criteria before they can lend money to borrowers, which helps promote user safety.

The inconvenients

Just because you have access to a P2P lending platform doesn’t mean you’ll be able to get enough funds to cover the cost of an emergency. And, if you default on a peer-to-peer loan, you could hurt your credit score, just like with a traditional installment loan. It should also be noted that some platforms may charge high service fees for any loan you take out.

Groomer Hilariously Imitates Dog Breeds In Her Living Room: ‘So Accurate’

A groomer hilariously mimics the most memorable breeds she gets in her salon, with people hailing her depictions online as “so accurate”.

Vanessa De Prophetis runs Perfect Pooches from her home in Niagara Falls, Canada, and regularly shares clips from her clients on her YouTube account, @girlwithedogs. She also uploads their antics to her TikTok account (which bears the same name), with some of her most popular videos amassing 27 million views.

She has groomed breeds that include Chow Chows, Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Bulldogs and Newfoundlands, as well as the ever-popular Pomeranians, Goldendoodles and Labradors. She even grooms cats and a dog’s emotional support rat.

Dog groomer Vanessa De Prophetis has posted clips of herself impersonating her animal clients.@girlwithedogs

After sharing so many videos from her point of view, she decided to switch places with her four-legged friends and do impersonations, after repeated pleas from her fans.

She said Newsweek“Through years of grooming dogs, I’ve learned that many identical breeds behave the same way, and I knew many people would find that relevant.

“One of the reasons I started my channel was to make people laugh, and there’s no better way to do that than to make fun of yourself. Putting myself in an embarrassing position has makes a lot of people smile. I got a lot of requests for this kind of content, that’s what gave me the idea to do it,” she said.

Grooming is an important ritual for any dog owner, and the American Kennel Club (AKC) says it’s a good idea to let a professional handle it.

De Prophetis’ most popular videos have amassed over 27 million views online. @girlwithedogs

While owners can do this task at home to save time and money, “professional groomers have all the right tools to keep your dog looking their best, from different types of clippers and blunt scissors to a adjustable grooming table. They are equipped with , mild shampoos for dogs with allergies or skin irritations, or those with fleas,” the AKC website states.

He continued: “Many groomers also know how to groom for breed show cuts, which requires careful attention to detail and knowledge of breed specific requirements. Different coats require different brushes – and the Groomers have it. The more dead hair they remove from your dog, the less you’ll find on your living room rug.”

A dog grooming session typically means the animal will be brushed, bathed and dried, with nails clipped and coats untangled, according to the AKC. The groomers even brush the pet’s teeth and check the ears for signs of infection.

De Prophetis’ latest video features her imitating some of the most notable breeds she’s had the pleasure of grooming, including Shih Tzus, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, Poodles, Doodles, Cockers and Yorkshire terriers.

The on-screen caption reads: “Pretend to be dogs at the grooming salon.”

De Prophetis imitates a wide variety of dog breeds.@girlwithedogs

While playing the role, De Prophetis has a leash and balaclava worn by the dogs to protect their ears while they are dried off.

First, she snaps and tries to bite the hair dryer, before letting out a shih tzu yelp and rushing at another groomer trying to cut her nails.

As a golden retriever, she tries to climb stairs before falling and lying on the ground. It must then be retrieved.

She mimics the cry of a husky as she ducks the showerhead in the bath, then resists having her paws shaved like a poodle.

Wearing pigtails, she blow-drys herself, panting like a cocker spaniel. As a rider, she lets out a high-pitched yelp as her hair is brushed.

De Prophetis mimics a doodle dodging the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner and kicks as his colleague tries to shave her feet. Finally, she shivers in the bathtub with wet hair, embodying a Yorkshire terrier.

“The most embarrassing thing I’ve ever done,” she captioned the clip, which has racked up more than 900,000 views since it was posted on Sunday.

Her fans love the performances. GetBaked wrote, “I laughed so much. Lol Thanks for your service.”

Nickivb said: “The poodle is so precise.” M said, “It’s an Oscar-level commitment here.”

Becca wrote: “THE ENGAGEMENT.” Nova the poodle added, “Omg every single one of them is so precise.”

Use these tips to stimulate your senses

0

As we age, many of us experience a gradual weakening of our senses, according to a study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Here, you’ll learn research-backed ways to strengthen each of your five senses and strengthen the connections in the brain that weaken with age. Feel young and lively again!

To refine the taste

At dinner, have a bite of chicken, followed by mashed potatoes. Rotating food with each bite forces your taste buds to switch between flavors, which can rebuild taste-related brain connections. And the more you can taste, the less you eat: Scientists at North Carolina State University suggest that enjoying the flavor of your food helps you lose weight.

To sharpen eyesight

Staring at a red-tinted screen for three minutes a day significantly improves your vision, according to a British study. Red light activates the energy centers of your retinas, compensating for a decline in contrast and color sensitivity. Tip: Try watching a video like this on YouTube for free.

To improve your sense of touch

As we age, our skin thins and microcirculation slows down, reducing sensitivity to touch. The fix: Breathe through your nose instead of your mouth. Studies indicate that nasal breathing increases oxygen flow to tissues by 20% when done daily, so you’re more aware of things like how it feels to hold your grandchild’s hand.

To strengthen your sense of smell

Research suggests that smelling four distinct scents, such as fresh air or clean laundry, daily strengthens the olfactory pathways in the body, increasing your sense of smell. Bonus: studies show that a keen sense of smell boosts cognition.

To improve hearing

Spending more time in dark environments could sharpen your hearing, research suggests. Performing ordinary tasks in slightly dimmer light forces your body to adapt by strengthening the unique neural connections in the brain that process sound, making it easier to listen to everything from your friend’s laugh to audio books.

Odesza returns with Feast For The Senses at Seattle Tour Opener (SHOW REVIEW)

0

Odesza are back with a forceful revenge that will likely see them continue to grow in popularity.

After a three-year touring hiatus, the Seattle-based electronic duo of Clayton Knight and Harrison Mills have embarked on a tour on the back of their new album, The last farewell. With a live show that will animate the legs of the most jaded cynical, their return in a new arena tour is not to be missed.

Their first show of the tour, at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, featured Ford’s openers. and Sylvan Esso, and an eclectic, enthusiastic crowd ready to go crazy and tail-dancing if given the expected provocation – and the provocation provided by Odesza.

For the uninitiated, a spectacle of Odesza is a feast for the senses, an opportunity for ecstatic surrender of the logical or self-aware self to an intense barrage of light, sound and movement. Odesza’s electronica covers a wide range of influences and incorporates many live instruments and singers, as well as a mix of older samples and singers. The music and live show is all about the beat, built around the Odesza drum line, which provides a pulsating and visually engaging backbone to the show.

Knight and Mills were clearly thrilled to be back and in front of huge audiences; the two began the show standing behind their samplers and drums, arms raised triumphantly, smiles spread across their faces as the audience was treated to the quiet sonic cover of “This Version of You”. Then began the sensory barrage, with the band launching into “Behind the Sun,” the bright and beautiful track featuring excerpts from Simin Ghanem’s “I Want That Blue Sky.” The screens behind and to either side of the stage lit up with the song’s newly released video, and moments after its opening bars the stage was full: the tightly choreographed drum line of eight drummers hit the stage, flames flew, and the audience erupted.

So the show went, with peaks and valleys of energy that had the crowd buzzing with excitement, dancing exuberantly one moment, then chilling the next. Odesza and the irrepressible drum line (and the occasional trumpet/trombone players and singers) blasted songs from across their catalog. The scene was a wave of visually captivating changes; the platforms Knight and Mills were standing on changed with the backdrop of the screen, with videos flashing all over and tied to the pulse of the music. An ever-changing array of special effects kept the viewer energized, with flames, fireworks, smoke and lasers punctuating heavy bass drops or dramatic silences. The drummers changed costumes and their drums, lit from within, changed colors to match the overall theme of a given song.

The show consisted of over 90 minutes of music, spread across 25 songs. In addition to drum line, live trumpet and trombone, the show included “Better Now” and “Higher Ground”, both featuring Naomi Wild, as well as “Wide Awake” featuring Charlie Houston. Additionally, they made some forays into their side project, Bronson, as well as playing a new song that seemed to dig into darker territory than their norm (complete with accompanying footage of a wolf and a strange humanoid-like apparition). a monster).

If the past two-plus years of pandemic life have done anything, they have reminded people of the amazing, fleeting emotional release made possible by live music. While this reviewer is more than thrilled when the pandemic truly recedes, the wait for the live broadcast from Odesza was more than worth the wait. They truly are at the top of the game, a fact evident in the sea of happy faces eagerly engulfed in Odesza’s sound journey.

Blind and Deaf Dog Has Sweet Reaction When Owner ‘Tests’ His Senses: ‘Bless His Heart’

A pet owner tested her dog’s senses in a very cute video.

Here’s how to get 20% off and a monthly

Jasper, TikToker’s cocker spaniel @blackwings_wolf, has been blind since he was 3 years old and only recently started losing his hearing. Nonetheless, she says her dog is happy and healthy and only gets “disoriented” after a nap or when excited.

Watch this bland Brooklyn bedroom become a mid-century modern getaway in just one day:

She wanted to see how well Jasper was adjusting to his new state, so she specifically engaged with him when he had just woken up.

“Jasper is blind and going deaf. He just woke up from a nap and is a little disoriented,” the text of the video reads.

The pet’s owner had just come home from work, but Jasper hadn’t realized she was there. To test her senses, instead of getting the dog’s attention, she waited for him to find her.

Unfortunately, Jasper was struggling. It took her a while to realize she was home. The dog sniffed around, sensing frantically “something is different,” but he didn’t know what.

Jasper knew she was home when he felt some of her clothes on the floor. He started wagging his tail enthusiastically. In order to get his attention, she hissed, which is one of the only audible sounds for him.

“The response isn’t great,” she said of the test results in the caption.

“It’s the fact that he got close to my feet and still didn’t realize it. I was sure it was going to get into my leg,” she added in the comments.

But she explained that everyday life isn’t that difficult for Jasper. She and her companion rarely leave the dog home alone. They never move the furniture, so he has his house “mapped” with his walking routes.

“We take him wherever we can if we have to go out. He loves exploring beaches – he gets some serious zooms! ” she says.

TikTokers sent their love to Jasper and the video has been viewed over 700,000 times.

“Oh bless her heart,” wrote one user.

“He’s a cute one. My dog is deaf too and our Pom is blind. We have a special baby house,” another said.

“He’s probably confused because he’s not deaf or blind in his dreams I think,” one TikToker said.

I'm a veterinarian and there are five dog breeds I would never own - one is really aggressive
I'm a veterinarian and there are three things you should never give your dog

But despite not losing, Stephanie warned that they needed some extra work in the grooming department.

“The poodle’s coat is waterproof, curly and does not shed. Although this
is good news for home, it may take relatively long time
and less than ideal for a busy family home since the coat
requires daily grooming to prevent matting and skin conditions.

“While the poodle does little damage in the house, a prospect
the family should ensure that they have enough time to
commit to grooming and exercise routines to stave off boredom
and the onset of disruptive or anxious behaviors.

“Like the poodle, the Bichon Frise does not lose hair around the
house and will require regular grooming to avoid tangles and
mats to grow.

“Due to their wool-like coat, they tend to trap dirt and other particles on their daily adventures, which can cause problems if not eliminated.

“The wool-like coat is also a moisture trap, which means they can develop hot spots if not dried properly after a walk in the rain. ‘They don’t seem clean for long either, so regular baths can be helpful. The Bichon is a good family dog and appeals to children for his size and endearing nature.’

While Stephanie also highlights eight other dog breeds that are also ideal because they have dirt resistant coats and low coat maintenance.

Stephanie revealed that the Affenpinscher is a “perfect” pup for families looking to welcome a small dog into their lives.

She said: “As a minimal, dirt-resistant coat type, this little monkey-faced terrier is full of character with a spunky personality that would best suit those looking for a dog full of mischief and fun.”

And a Border Terrier requires little grooming as they have a waterproof coat that will rarely need bathing.

Stephanie explains, “The Border Terrier wire waterproof top coat sits on a soft undercoat that will require hand stripping approximately every 6 months.

“It makes him relatively clean around the house since his coat
seldom paid. It is small in size and takes up little space
home making it ideal for apartment living as well as,
bigger houses.

“They are easy to clean thanks to their waterproof coat and will only very rarely need bathing. When muddy the coat can be left to dry before brushing. If they ever need a bath, they can be bathed in a sink or human bath. bath at home with little effort – remember to introduce him to the bath in a positive way using lots of tasty treats!”

She added that: “Notoriously quiet, the Basenji is an adaptable breed that also sheds very little throughout the year. Plus, they tend to have a dirt-resistant coat, which means they don’t smell like their cousins either!

Stephanie also explained that the “fun and loving” Staffordshire Bull Terrier is also a good choice for those who want a mess-free home.

She said: “Despite its reputation for prejudice, the Staff makes an excellent family dog with a particular fondness for children when well socialized. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier’s coat is short and smooth, which minimizes the demands on grooming.”

While smooth coated dachshunds shed little and only need an occasional bristle brush.

“Their size makes them very adaptable to any living environment, and their small legs allow them to exercise less as long as they are mentally enriched with treat-hunting games in a secure back garden.

“They can be greedy dogs and prone to weight gain, so it’s important to monitor this to ensure they maintain a healthy weight that supports their extended backs.”

While the “intelligent, friendly and loyal” Doberman also ticks that box for proud homeowners.

Stephanie said: “Their coat requires minimal grooming although it sheds lightly throughout the year. It’s easy to keep clean as their coat tends to be dirt resistant with minimal odor.”

She also explained how the Chinese Crested “is notoriously known for having little hair, making it the perfect companion for a family with little time to brush the long coats.

“That being said, this breed does require daily skin maintenance to prevent skin infections. Therefore, it may not be suitable for a busy family lifestyle.”

I'm a mom at 21 and pregnant again, they have different dads and I don't care
Ms Hinch fans rave over £1.25 purchase from B&M which eliminates

And the “fun and energetic” Greyhound is another good option for those looking to avoid a stinky dog.

Stephanie said: “They are nimble and adaptable, making them suitable for apartment living as well as larger properties.

“A Greyhound’s coat is short and smooth which makes grooming requirements minimal and they also have a dirt resistant coat which makes them relatively odorless although they shed lightly all year round.
round.

“The Whippet may, however, have an instinctive prey,
it is therefore crucial that those considering hosting one
home make sure they invest in a positive, non-strength trainer
to help with socialization and training.

Dr Sanjay Gupta: It’s not just your five senses that help you make sense of the world

0

They are meant to protect us from danger. They help us find food and potentially even a mate. They create order in the events of the world around us, and if we are properly tuned, they reveal some of the natural beauty and wonder that surrounds us.

The thing that all the senses have in common is that they are processed by the brain. In fact, everything we see, hear, feel, smell and taste is perceived by — and many would say established by — our brain.

It’s true: it’s our brain that can transform tiny invisible molecules suspended in the air into the smell of baking bread or a stinky sock. Our brain can transform pressure waves or vibrations into the sound of a loved one or a distant clap of thunder. Our brain can also weave the visible light part of electromagnetic radiation into a beautiful mountain or the glow on our mother’s face. And our brains can recognize the infrared portion of that same electromagnetic radiation as the warmth we feel when sitting near a burning fireplace. It’s quite incredible.

In the new season of the “Chasing Life” podcast, which started this week, we will explore many mysteries of the senses.

I’m a practicing neurosurgeon and my first love has always been the brain, but reporting on this season’s stories was a chance to combine that with another love: journalistic storytelling. And what I heard, saw, smelled, tasted and felt was quite remarkable.

Our traditional five senses may seem simple, but they really aren’t. Each is multifaceted and nuanced, with many variations among humans.

Take touch, for example. Some people need to be touched and others much less. And far from being a single sense, touch can be broken down into pressure, temperature, tactile sensations and pain. And we’re still learning how it all works.

It was only last year, in 2021, that two scientists, working separately, shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their work identifying a sensor in the nerve endings of our skin that responds to heat and other sensors that react to pressure. And just this year, researchers published a paper describing some of the possible neural underpinnings of pleasurable sensations like hugs and caresses.

Also, the traditional five senses are not the only senses we have. It might surprise you to learn that we have at least seven, maybe eight. You’ll learn about the other secret senses that most humans possess in this season of “Chasing Life.”

Additionally, we’ll look at what happens when people don’t have a meaning or a component of a meaning. We have an episode of prosopagnosia, commonly known as face blindness, a condition in which people can see faces but cannot recognize them – sometimes not even their own family members. And we’ll learn how members of the deafblind community have created language to help them communicate better.

We will also delve deeper into synesthesia, when two senses blend together to create a single “combined sense”, such as colored hearing, where certain sounds elicit colors. You will learn why synesthesia occurs and how the experience is so inherent in the individual that many who have it do not realize (for a long time) that others do not perceive the world in the same way.

We’ll also delve into the promise of psychedelics, which distort the senses and disassociate us from our familiar way of being and can be used to treat mental health issues, like post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.

Animals and their umwelten

We kick off the season with an interview with award-winning science journalist Ed Yong. He is the author of a new book, “An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us”.

Ed explains how all creatures, not just humans, live in their own “sensory bubble” through which they experience a slice of reality – the very specific slice of reality that happens to be crucial to their survival and their well-being. The phenomenon is called the umwelt, a concept pioneered in 1934 by German Baltic biologist Jakob von Uexküll.

You might have a lot more to lose than you think from not quitting, experts say

Ed takes us on a fascinating journey through the many mysterious senses of the animal kingdom that exist outside of our own umwelt, beyond the scope of what we humans can know for sure. If you’ve ever wondered what it could be like to socialize by scent like a dog, use echolocation to navigate like a bat, feel the earth’s magnetic pull to migrate in the right direction like a bird. or discern the environment via electricity like an eel, you won’t want to miss this conversation.

Ed said to me: “I start the book with this thought experiment, to imagine that you share a room with an elephant and a bee and a rattlesnake, a spider, a bat. … You could all being in the same physical space, but you would have drastically different experiences of that space. The Rattlesnake will be able to sense the body heat of animals around it;the Elephant might make low infrasonic rumbles that other creatures cannot. couldn’t hear. A dog in this space would be able to smell so much…that his animal companions couldn’t. So each of us is trapped in our own sensory bubble and only perceives that thin slice of the fullness of reality.

What’s really amazing, Ed says, is that every one of these living creatures, including us, thinks we’re getting the full picture of what reality is.

“I’m sitting here in this room, and I don’t feel like my perception of the world is incomplete. I’m not sitting here marveling at the gaps in what I perceive. But this feeling of understanding everything is such an illusion, and it’s an illusion that all animals share,” he said. “It tells us that even the most familiar parts of our world are full of unknowns and extraordinary things.”

Ed delves into these mysteries – into the different umwelten of animals – and brings them to life for us. You can listen to my full conversation with Ed Yong here.
Join us this and every Tuesday on “In pursuit of life“as we embark on an exploration of the senses and how they bring the world to life for us, so that we can live our best lives in the world.

Flasher man detects new possibilities in the leather goods sector

0

FLASHER, ND (KFYR) — For more than 20 years, Cliff Naylor has brought us weekly stories from Off the Beaten Path.

You’ll find many of his favorites in his new book, “Dakota Day Trips: The Road to Rural Wonders.”

He shared those stories and gave us updates on some of those classics on First at Four over the past few weeks.

One of the more recent stories he revisited is that of Ray Riehl, a Flasher leatherworker.

Riehl’s update is good news.

So good, in fact, that Jody Kerzman and Cliff returned to Flasher to revisit R&R Supplies.

Ray Riehl doesn’t work as much as he used to.

“I take Sunday off,” he says.

But from Monday to Saturday, you will find him in his studio.

“I’m here from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. until 5 a.m.,” he said.

Riehl stays busy creating lots of things, like saddles and leather dog harnesses. He started R&R Supplies in 1987.

“I didn’t think it would take this long,” admitted Riehl. “I should be retired because I’ve been in business for 35 years!

Instead, he crafts new items, like these leather fly swatters. He got the idea when a friend brought one home from the National Finals Rodeo.

“I thought to myself, well, I have nothing else to do and I have all this leather scrap, might as well use it for something. So I started making fly swatters,” Riehl explained.

His work is meticulous and precise. What makes it even more impressive: Riehl is blind. He lost his sight more than three decades ago.

“February 24, 1986,” he recalls. “I had a head-on collision with a pickup truck and the hood of the pickup went through the windshield of my car. I used to go to rodeos, I was a pickup truck and all that , and I was trucking, and now I had to learn something new.

It was then that he discovered leather goods.

“It’s something to do,” he explained. “I didn’t know how to operate a sewing machine until I was blind.”

Riehl quickly mastered the sewing machine and has been creating leather masterpieces ever since.

He never saw his work.

“I just go by feel, that’s all,” Riehl said.

It looks like Riehl has exactly what it takes for this kind of work.

How do cash advance apps work and are they better than payday loans?

By Annie Millerbernd

The apps have lower fees, but you can always have better alternatives when you need the cash.

This article is reprinted with permission from NerdWallet.

If you’re asked to imagine a payday lender, you might think of a storefront in a strip mall with green dollar signs and neon slogans like “everyday payday.” You probably wouldn’t imagine a mobile app that advertises on TikTok and sports a colorful logo.

But cash advance apps like Earnin and Dave provide advances with the same borrowing and repayment structure as payday lenders, and consumer advocates say they carry similar risks. Both are quick, no-credit-check options for closing an income gap or easing inflation pressure.

Neither is an ideal first choice for borrowing money quickly, but knowing their differences can help you save money and avoid hurting your finances.

Cash advance apps work like payday loans

Like most payday loans, a cash advance or paycheck app lets you borrow money without a credit check. You are also required to repay the advance, plus any fees you have agreed, on your next payday.

One payment cycle is usually not enough for borrowers to repay a payday loan, so many people fall into the habit of getting another loan to pay off the previous one, says Alex Horowitz, senior director of The Pew Charitable Trusts.

App users may find themselves in a similar cycle. A 2021 study by the Financial Health Network found that more than 70% of app users get back-to-back advances. The study doesn’t say why users re-borrow, but Horowitz says the behavior is particularly similar to payday loans.

“Direct-to-consumer payday advances share the DNA of payday loans,” he says. “They’re structured the same, they have repeat borrowings, and they’re scheduled based on the borrower’s payday, which gives the lender strong collectability.”

Also read: ‘We haven’t yet seen a spike in food inflation’: Food price increase is the highest since 1979, and this staple is up nearly 40% from the last year

Apps can offer more flexibility

Payday lenders and payday advance apps collect repayment directly from your bank account. If your account balance is too low when funds are withdrawn, you could incur overdraft fees, says Yasmin Farahi, senior policy adviser at the Center for Responsible Lending.

An application may try to avoid overcharging your account. Mia Alexander, Vice President of Customer Success at Dave, says the app reviews users’ bank accounts before withdrawing the refund. If the refund puts the balance close to zero or negative, the app may not withdraw the funds, she says.

However, apps typically include language in their user agreements that while they try not to overcharge your account, they aren’t liable if they do.

In states where payday loans are allowed, a payday lender is unlikely to offer a free, unsolicited payment extension, as some apps claim. Some states require payday lenders to offer extended payment plans at no cost to troubled borrowers, but a 2021 report from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says some lenders are misrepresenting plans or not disclosing them.

Unlike payday lenders, the apps don’t make collection calls. If a user revokes access to their bank account to avoid a refund, the app will not attempt to collect the funds. The user simply cannot get another advance until they repay the previous one.

Payday loans cost more

Payday loans tend to have high mandatory fees, unlike apps. Instead, they charge a small fee that users can accept throughout the borrowing process. These fees can add up, but they are usually lower than those charged by payday lenders.

For example, an app might charge a monthly subscription fee or a fee for instant access to funds. Most cash advance apps also ask for a tip for service.

The charges on a $375 payday loan are most often about $55 over a two-week period, Horowitz says. Since the cash advance application fee is mostly optional, you can easily keep the cost below $10.

Earnin user Sharay Jefferson says she’s used payday loans in the past, but switched to a cash advance app because it’s a cheaper way to cover bills and unexpected expenses.

“If you get a $200 payday loan, you might be paying something back three times over,” she says. “With Earnin, I’m going to have to pay that $200 back, plus whatever I decide to give them. It’s a lot cheaper.”

Don’t miss: What will student borrowers do after getting $10,000 or $20,000 debt forgiveness? MarketWatch asked readers – this was their #1 answer

Technically, apps are not lenders

Regulators like the CFPB have not classified payday advance apps as lenders, despite their similarities to payday loans.

Earnin CEO and Founder Ram Palaniappan says the app is more like a payroll service or an ATM because it makes it easier to access your own funds. Earnin asks users to upload a timesheet showing they worked enough hours to earn the cash advance amount. Other apps scan a user’s bank account for income and expenses to determine if they qualify for an advance.

Farahi says applications should be treated like creditors, meaning they would follow the Truth in Lending Act, which requires creditors to disclose an annual percentage rate. An APR allows consumers to compare costs between financing options. For example, users can compare the APR of a cash advance app to that of a credit card and choose the most affordable.

“People still need to know what the real cost of credit is and to be able to assess it and really compare that cost with other options,” she says.

Applications should also comply with applicable state lending laws. Currently, 18 states and Washington, DC, have maximum interest rate caps that could limit application fees, she says.

Cash Advance App vs Payday Loan: Which is Better?

If you’re in dire need of cash, you may have better alternatives than payday loans and advanced apps, Farahi says.

Local charities and nonprofits can provide basic food and clothing needs. A family or friend could lend you money at no extra cost. If you have a few hours to spare, a side gig could generate as much money as a typical payday loan or cash advance application.

If you have the choice between an app and a payday loan, the app is probably the best option because:

A cash advance from an app is unlikely to leave you in a better financial position, Farahi says. But it may be a little less likely than a payday loan to make things worse for you.

Most and cheapest dog breeds: costs and details

0

The most expensive dog breeds

The bigger the dog, the higher his monthly expenses will be. Most giant breeds only live eight to ten years, so the overall cost of ownership is lower than larger breeds that live longer. Taking life expectancy into account, here are the five dog breeds with the highest total cost of ownership*.

  • Giant Schnauzer: $34,410 over 14 years
  • Goldendoodle: $32,675 over 13 years
  • Tibetan Mastiff: $32,485 over 11 years
  • Black Russian Terrier: $30,200 over 11 years
  • Labradoodle: $29,475 over 13 years

Giant Schnauzer

This breed is only “giant” compared to other schnauzers. Adults typically weigh between 55 and 80 pounds, but are very active and may need up to 4 cups of food per day. You can expect to spend $290 a year on food and $345 on treats. Giant Schnauzers are highly intelligent but willful and can become destructive when bored. Thus, they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. You will have to spend on toys and training to help you.

Giant Schnauzer puppies are hard to find and cost an average of $2,500. First-year costs for this breed, including supplies, training, and vet visits, are around $5,940. Grooming is another substantial cost: a giant schnauzer has a double coat that needs to be hand-trimmed every four to six months. Expect to pay around $650 per year for grooming.

Giant Schnauzers are generally in relatively good health, although hip and joint problems, thyroiditis and squamous cell carcinoma are possible. Vet visits will cost an average of $675 per year, plus emergencies.

Giant Schnauzers cost an average of $2,190 per year of adult life. Considering first-year costs and a 14-year lifespan, that’s about $34,410, making the giant schnauzer the most expensive breed on our list.

golden doodle

It may surprise you to see this mixed breed on our list, but since the goldendoodle is a designer breed combining a golden retriever with a standard poodle, it’s quite expensive. Puppies are easy to find, but a responsible breeder who knows how to pair dogs to reduce the risk of hereditary disease will charge around $2,000 for a goldendoodle.

Food costs about as much as a giant schnauzer, about $290 a year, as the two breeds are similar in size and energy.

Goldendoodles don’t shed much, but they will need regular haircuts totaling around $710 a year. They are reasonably healthy, but like many large breeds they are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. These genetic conditions can cause arthritis, joint pain, and even paralysis. So expect to spend around $675 a year on vet bills.

First-year expenses for a goldendoodle puppy average around $5,675, and you can expect to pay around $2,250 per year thereafter. On an average life expectancy of 13 years, that works out to about $32,675.

tibetan mastiff

The first truly giant breed on our list, Tibetan Mastiffs are huge, hard-working guard dogs that can weigh up to 160 pounds. They eat 4-6 cups of food per day, or about 430 pounds per year, totaling $390 per year plus an additional $345 for treats.

Another considerable regular expense is professional grooming at around $900 per year. Mastiffs’ thick double coats form a lion-like mane around their neck and shoulders, which creates a striking appearance but requires frequent grooming to remain matt and tangle-free.

Tibetan Mastiffs are a fairly rare breed. A puppy can cost between $1,800 and $4,500, although the average is $2,500. In 2011, a Tibetan Mastiff named Big Splash sold for $1.5 million — at the time, the most expensive dog never sold.

Even if you opt for a rescue dog with $500 adoption fee, you will still have to pay annual medical bills of around $750. Hip and elbow dysplasia and other orthopedic conditions are cause for concern, as are hypothyroidism and canine hereditary demyelinating neuropathy.

Total first year costs for a Tibetan Mastiff puppy are $6,235 because they are so expensive to buy and grow so quickly. These dogs also have the highest average annual costs for adults, around $2,625. However, since they only live for about 11 years, their overall cost is $32,485, slightly less than the goldendoodle.

Russian black terrier

The Black Russian Terrier resembles the Tibetan Mastiff in that it is a giant breed with a high annual cost and a short lifespan. It’s also rare, with puppies costing around $2,000. You can expect to pay around $5,750 in the first year of ownership between food, training, medical bills, and extra-large supplies.

Adult Russian Black Terriers can weigh up to 140 pounds and eat around $380 worth of food per year. Grooming their long double coats isn’t as difficult as a Tibetan Mastiff, but you’ll still pay around $730 a year for professional grooming. Black Russian Terriers are fairly healthy, but there is always a risk of elbow and hip dysplasia and an eye disease called progressive retinal apathy. Expect to pay around $750 per year in medical bills.

Overall, an adult Black Russian Terrier costs around $2,445 per year, or $30,200 over an 11-year lifespan.

Labradoodle

Another hybrid breed rounds out our top five, thanks to the relatively high price of puppies (around $1,550) and longer lifespan. Because this Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle mix is a designer breed, there aren’t many of them in shelters. You will likely need to find a breeder and possibly put yourself on a waiting list. Expect to pay around $225 for the first year of food and $255 per year for food thereafter.

Labradors have different coat textures and lengths, so grooming requirements depend on each Labradoodle’s parentage, but average around $650 per year. Most Labradoodles reach around 50 to 65 pounds, although some are bred smaller. Hip and elbow dysplasia are potential health issues, as are epilepsy, diabetes, and progressive retinal apathy. That said, Labradoodles tend to derive some health benefits from their hybrid genetics, so medical costs will be around $625 per year.

A labradoodle puppy costs around $4,695 the first year of ownership and $2,065 for each year thereafter. Assuming a 13-year lifespan, this breed has a total cost of ownership of around $29,475.

Is Your Credit Card Charging You Any Of These 9 Fees Dave Ramsey Warns You About?

You should check the fine print on your credit card statement to find out.

Key points

  • Credit card charges are very common and can cause your credit card to cost you more.
  • Dave Ramsey warned of nine fees to watch out for, including late fees, cash advance fees and returned payment fees.

Credit cards can make shopping easier since you can charge things instead of carrying cash for your purchases. If you use the cards responsibly by not overcharging and paying them back in full, they can also help you build credit and earn you valuable rewards.

But, cards can also cost you money, especially if you end up incurring additional fees that card issuers sometimes add. Financial expert Dave Ramsey has warned of nine common charges you may incur when you have a card, and it’s worth checking to see if you currently cover any of them.

Nine fees to watch out for

The nine charges Dave Ramsey warns about include:

Check it out: This card has one of the longest 0% interest intro periods.

More: Consolidate your debt with one of these top-rated balance transfer credit cards

  1. Annual fees: Ramsey asked, “Did you know you can be charged just for the ‘privilege’ of having a credit card?” He explained that not all card issuers charge for them, but some do. And he warned that sometimes fees are waived in the first year, but come into effect afterwards.
  2. Late fee: These are charged if you pay your bill late. As Ramsey explains, the CARD Act limits the first over-limit fee to $28 and allows subsequent over-limit fees to go up to $39 if you’re late a second time within six months.
  3. Balance Transfer Fee: You will pay these fees if you transfer a balance to your card. “You will be charged a percentage of the amount you move,” Ramsey explained.
  4. Cash advance fees: If you receive money from your credit card instead of just charging for purchases, a cash advance fee is usually added. Cash advances may also cost you more for another reason. “Unlike other purchases, cash advances don’t have a monthly grace period,” Ramsey explained. “That means they’ll start increasing interest as soon as the money is in your hands, not just when the billing cycle is over. Talk about a punch in the stomach!”
  5. Overlimit Fee: If you go over your card’s credit limit, Ramsey says you may be charged these fees, although not all cards assess them.
  6. Expedited Payment Fee: Ramsey says some card companies charge you if you make an expedited payment because you’re worried your payment won’t arrive on time.
  7. Foreign transaction fees: As Ramsey explained, these fees can be charged both when you’re abroad and when you’re buying something from a seller who doesn’t charge in US dollars.
  8. Returned Payment Fee: If your payment is returned due to insufficient funds or other issues, Ramsey says your card company will typically charge you to return your payment.
  9. Card Replacement Fee: Finally, a lost card may also result in additional charges.

As Ramsey explains, there are so many fees because “credit card companies love people with nothing but pennies.” So, since it’s your money that’s at stake, it’s important to be aware of what you’re being charged and make sure you protect yourself from these additional costs.

How to avoid unnecessary credit card charges

Follow these steps:

  • First make sure that the fees are really unnecessary. In some cases, for example, the annual fee is worth paying if your card comes with generous rewards and benefits that exceed the value of the fee. And the balance transfer fee may be worth paying if the balance transfer saves you more interest than you pay up front.
  • Set up automatic payments to avoid late fees and expedited payment fees.
  • Avoid making cash advances, which can be very expensive and usually unnecessary.
  • To avoid overlimit fees, don’t max out your credit cards.
  • Look for a card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees if you go abroad.
  • Keep your card in a safe place so you don’t have to replace it.

Now that you’re aware of these fees, you have the tools you need to make sure you don’t get stuck paying them. There’s no reason for your card to cost you more than you need to, so heed Ramsey’s advice and avoid cards with unnecessary fees.

The best credit card waives interest until 2023

If you have credit card debt, transfer it to this top balance transfer card guarantees you an introductory APR of 0% in 2023! Plus, you won’t pay any annual fees. These are just a few of the reasons why our experts consider this card a top choice to help you control your debt. Read our full review for free and apply in just 2 minutes.

Factors to consider when looking for the best loans for bad credit with guaranteed approval

    Eligibility

Before applying for a loan, check your eligibility and their requirements. Even though payday lenders approve of low credit, some require a minimum FICO score of 620. You also need to consider your debt-to-equity ratio, which is your monthly expenses compared to your income. Lenders require borrowers to have a stable income to ensure timely repayments.

    Interest charges

When you borrow money, the interest rate is crucial. Compare the minimum rates to see if they are reasonable. Also check your credit score because generally better credit means lower interest rates. bad lenders could offer fixed and non-variable interest rates. These fixed rates can remain constant for the duration of the loan, while variable rates are adjustable.

    Terms and conditions

Before signing the contract, it is always advisable to read between the lines. Read carefully and make sure that the terms spelled out on the contract are favorable to your needs and you won’t have any problems with them during the repayment period.

    Other expenses

Different lenders have different fees associated with the loans offered. For example, some lenders have initiation fees, processing fees, late payment fees, NSF check penalties, etc. Make sure you understand all the expected fees before signing the contract, so that there are no surprises in the future.

    Last word

There aren’t many options available for people with bad credit. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get the help you need when you’re in a financial emergency. We have compiled these platforms to help you see some of the possibilities available that you can use when needed.

How a minority-owned bank outwitted payday lenders

OneUnited Bank is proof that some companies still have heart.

    Key points

    • Cash Please is OneUnited Bank’s way of protecting its customers from predatory lending.
    • NBCUniversal spent six months tracking and recording the unique mission OneUnited has set for itself.

It’s impossible to meet Teri Williams, President and COO of OneUnited Bank, and not be impressed by her humility. Williams isn’t one to draw attention to herself and doesn’t particularly like being the center of attention. That’s one of the reasons it came as a bit of a surprise to learn that Williams had allowed an NBCUniversal camera crew access to the inner workings of OneUnited for six months.

Cameras followed Williams and her husband, Kevin Cohee, Chairman and CEO of OneUnited, as they continued their mission to close the racial wealth gap in America. And one of the (many) technological innovations they have developed to achieve this goal is preventing predatory lenders from taking advantage of their customers.

    cash please

OneUnited’s breakthrough digital product, Cash Please, represents a small but essential way the bank is looking to help its customers find their financial footing.

    Here’s how it works:

    • Customers need more money than they have in their bank account. Maybe they had an emergency, or inflation is making it impossible to switch from one payday to the next.
    • Rather than borrowing money from a payday lender, OneUnited Bank customers can now borrow the funds they need from their bank.
    • Loans are designed to be relatively small and short-term.
    • No credit check is required.
    • Unlike the 400%+ interest rates offered by payday lenders, the APR is manageable (about the same as an average credit card).
    • Cash Please loans cannot be rolled over into another loan, a practice employed by payday lenders that traps borrowers in a cycle of debt.

    born from heart

OneUnited executives offered Cash Please after sitting down to review what Williams calls “our customer pain points”. As they worked to identify the types of issues that stood in the way of building wealth, they discovered that they included predatory lending.

The executives acknowledged that some of their customers go to payday lenders for loans to pay for their usual expenses. It’s no secret that interest rates north of 400% are the norm in states where payday loans are still legal and payday lenders have created a system that prevents many from breaking the cycle. and get out of debt. When two weeks pass and he has no money to repay his loan, the borrower must take out another loan to cover the first one.

This practice goes against OneUnited’s goal of helping customers build generational wealth. And that’s how Cash Please was born.

    Sure to attract attention

Whether or not Williams relishes the limelight, it’s only natural that a major news agency would find history in what OneUnited has achieved over the past quarter century.

Kevin Cohee explained, “This moment of social awareness has created an unprecedented opportunity for our country to overcome the lasting damage of our history of systemic racism. Technology provides the opportunity to organize effectively to drive political change, social and economic. It also creates the greatest opportunity to generate wealth in human history.”

To achieve this goal, OneUnited provides a wealth of online financial education materials. The bank has sponsored seminars with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars as well as highly respected financial gurus. The bank also offers second chance banking services for those with a negative ChexSystems report and unlimited support from dedicated staff.

When asked which of the bank’s technological advancements she believes had had the most significant impact, Williams replied: “It’s not a specific service but a broad umbrella. After hundreds of years distrust of black community banks, we began to cut corners on that lack of trust.”

It is natural for black households to be wary of banks. Even today, it can be more difficult to qualify for a loan or even receive a fair home appraisal if you are black. But, according to Williams, it’s “fundamental” for their community to know they can trust those they choose to do business with. “We want them to know that we’re not trying to provide predatory service,” she said.

As Williams points out, ultimately, “it’s hard to build wealth without a bank.”

NBCUniversal show The passage will premiere with the OneUnited Bank episode on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. ET on CNBC. On September 19, the program will also air on CNBC.com and Salesforce+, and will debut on the Peacock streaming service on October 3.

Cash Advance Apps vs Payday Loans: Which is Better?

    Getty Images

    Young man working from home

If you’re asked to imagine a payday lender, you might think of a storefront in a mall with green signs and neon slogans like “everyday payday.” You probably wouldn’t imagine a mobile app that advertises on TikTok and sports a colorful logo.

But cash advance apps like Earnin and Dave provide advances with the same borrowing and repayment structure as payday lenders, and consumer advocates say they carry similar risks. Both are quick, no-credit-check options for closing an income gap or easing the pressure of inflation.

A single payment cycle is usually not enough for borrowers to repay payday loanso many people fall into the habit of getting another loan to pay off the previous one, says Alex Horowitz, senior director of The Pew Charitable Trusts.

App users may find themselves in a similar cycle. A 2021 study by the Financial Health Network found that more than 70% of app users get back-to-back advances. The study doesn’t say why users re-borrow, but Horowitz says the behavior is particularly similar to payday loans.

“Direct-to-consumer payday advances share DNA with payday loans,” he says. “They’re structured the same, they have repeat borrowings, and they’re scheduled based on the borrower’s payday, which gives the lender strong collectability.”

In states where payday loans are allowed, a payday lender is unlikely to offer a free, unsolicited payment extension, as some apps say.

It’s much cheaper. »

If you need cash urgently, you can have better alternatives than payday loans and advanced apps, says Farahi.

Local charities and nonprofits can meet basic food and clothing needs. A family or friend could lend you money at no additional cost. If you have a few hours to spare, a side gig could generate as much money as a typical payday loan or cash advance application.

If you have the choice between an app and a payday loan, the app is probably the best option because:

    • It is less expensive.
    • It may not trigger overdraft charges.
    • If you don’t pay it back, the app won’t send you to collections.

A cash advance from an app is unlikely to leave you in a better financial position, Farahi says. But it may be a little less likely than a payday loan to make things worse for you.

These 3 dog breeds are the most adapted to the climate of India

Here are some dog breeds suitable for the Indian climate

    ” class=”lazy img-responsive” data-src=”https://www.iwmbuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/these-3-dog-breeds-are-most-suited-to- the-climate-of-india-4-920×518.jpg” width=”920″ height=”518″ alt=”These 3 breeds of dogs are best suited to India’s climate” />

India has a wide range of climates. Despite the fact that they find it difficult to adapt to the Indian climate, dog-loving people usually choose foreign breeds of dogs as pets. The weather can impact how active a dog is; some dogs are better suited to hot, humid summers than others, while some dogs enjoy cold, humid winters. Breeds that need cold temperatures, like the Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute or Saint Bernard, for example, would not survive India’s humid climate. Therefore, it is essential to consider the environment and climate when choosing a pet. Choose dog breeds that can adapt to your environment. The 3 best dog breeds for the Indian climate are given below.

    German shepherd

It is one of the most popular dog breeds in India. Another term for them is Alsatian, an Indian version of the German race. They can thrive and even grow in extreme heat and cold conditions. These dogs make excellent security dogs due to their powerful personalities and strong commitment to their handlers. Their average lifespan is 12 years. They are fast and incredibly strong dogs, and it takes a lot of effort to handle them.

    Labrador

In India, the Labrador dog breed is especially popular. They are a loving and wise breed that needs care, education and devotion. They are perfectly suited to the environment in India as they have a smooth, silky undercoat in the summer and a rough outer coat that helps repel water in the winter. They need to exercise regularly as they love to eat and tend to gain weight. Their typical lifespan is 10 to 12 years. It is one of the friendliest dog breeds out there.

    Pug

These dogs are small in size. They are caring and caring. Most of them are cheerful, brave and gregarious. They do not require routine professional grooming due to their short coat and low maintenance. They are easy to train and love to be cuddled. Usually they have a lifespan of 13 to 15 years.

A new legged business: Suds in the Bucket Dog Grooming & Spa opens in LaPlace

    Posted at 12:11 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022

LAPLACE — Pampered puppies can receive luxurious services ranging from haircuts and baths to pedicures and facials at Suds in the Bucket Dog Grooming & Spa, a new business located at 528 E. Airline Highway in LaPlace.

Candace Hoover, a hairstylist turned dog groomer, said her love for animals inspired her to open LaPlace’s only full-service dog spa. The company officially opened on August 24, and Hoover enjoyed every minute.

“I was a hairdresser many years ago, and I had to quit because I had young children and it was too many hours. Now that the children are older and I’m a a big animal lover, I decided to take lessons and do some observation,” Hoover said. “The transition was great. I already have previous experience, so I knew how to use the tools. love meeting all the different breeds coming in, some that i have never heard of before like a bulldog-poodle mix.. i love hearing people share stories about their dogs.

As a dog owner, Hoover realized a need for more grooming services in the St. John the Baptist Parish area. This need has increased over the past year, especially with the closure of Petsense since Hurricane Ida. Another respected local business, Scarlet’s Pet Grooming, recently closed as the owner takes time to focus on her growing family.

Business has boomed in the weeks since Suds in the Bucket opened at LaPlace, with bookings already extended through part of October.

Grooming is generally recommended every six to eight weeks for some breeds, while puppies may need to come more frequently. Suds in the Bucket accepts dogs as young as eight weeks old. All dogs entering the store must have an up-to-date hunting record.

The Suds in the Bucket bath package includes a bath, blow dry, nail trim and ear cleaning. The spa package includes the basic services of the bath package and goes even further with a haircut, paw butter and blueberry facial. Each pampered pup ends the date with a bow tie or bow tie and designer perfume.

“With our spa package and our bath package, we wash the dog twice. The first wash is to dislodge debris and the second is to clean everything. Then we do a very heavy conditioner,” Hoover said. “After the spa or their bath, we like to do a little photo shoot.”

There are also options for a la carte services including, but not limited to, nail trimming, teeth cleaning, and nail polish.

Receptionist Heidi Reuther said Suds in the Bucket welcomes both customers and dogs, and the company sets itself apart with high-end products. Hoover has selected shampoos for specific breeds. There really is something for everyone, whether a four-legged friend needs a serious cleaning or a shampoo to overcome the strongest smells.

Hoover said dogs benefit from spa services like paw butter, the canine equivalent of a manicure and hand massage. They also seem to like the relaxing feeling of blueberry facials.

“With facials, they always fall asleep in the tub or on the table,” Hoover said.

As the company grows, Hoover also plans to give back to the community.

“I was born and raised here, so it’s very special to me. I plan to do giveaways for free grooming and spa treatments,” Hoover said. “I plan to support Carnival Ball for our schools. I also want to do a school supply giveaway next year.

Suds in the Bucket is open 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday nights.

8 Types of Dog Behavior Explained

    0

All dogs are different and each has a different personality. However, they have some quirks and behaviors in common. Some of them may seem strange to their owners. To ensure your dog is happy and healthy, you need to be aware of common behaviors and learn to notice when something is wrong. Our list of some canine behaviors will help you start the journey to improve your pet’s life.

    tilting the head

Head tilting is something you might see your dog doing quite often. You might see such behavior mainly with puppies. They seem to interrogate you. However, the small action can often mean they are trying to see or hear better. Or they hear a new sound or experience something unusual and can’t quite understand it. But if you notice that your dog has no control over the head tilt or is doing it more than usual, you should ask the vet to see if there are any health issues.

    lick the air

When you see your dog licking air, it can have many causes. This can, for example, mean that your dog is hungry or thirsty. If you’re home, check their water bowl and if you’re away, take a drink break. It can also become the dog’s way of asking for attention if you recognize the behavior every time. It can also mean that there is something wrong with your pet. If you notice your dog licking the air excessively or out of the blue, you may want to consult your veterinarian to make sure there are no health concerns.

    Pressing on their head

Seeing your dog leaning his head against a wall or other firm surfaces is not too common. However, you should be vigilant if you see your dog taking such actions. Such behavior is a sign of several serious health problems – from toxic poisoning to brain disease. When you see your dog pressing his head against hard surfaces, you should see the vet as soon as possible to see what the problem is and how you can fix it.

    chasing their tails

When dogs chase after their tails, it can be considered playful behavior. However, seeing that your pets can’t get away or start chewing their tails once they catch them can be a sign of a serious health issue. If the dog continues to run in circles, it may indicate an ear infection. Some dogs can also develop obsessive-compulsive disorder. When you see that going around in circles isn’t just a game anymore, take your dog to the vet for a check-up.

    lick people

When a dog licks you, it is most often a sign of affection. However, that doesn’t always mean they kiss you. Sometimes when dogs lick you, they can groom you, just like when a mother cleans and cares for her puppy. It can make dogs more relaxed. But you should still read their posture. If dogs are licking you and having a tense posture at the same time, they could be signaling that you’re too close to them and they need more space.

    Lean on people

Leaning on their owners is typical, mainly for large dogs. They are affectionate animals, and when they lean on your feet, legs, or body, they just want to be closer to you and get your attention. In some cases, it can also be a sign of insecurity. Being close to you helps them deal with the situation. They are not trying to dominate you in any way. In some cases, it can also be a sign of separation anxiety. And if dogs lean on you because they have trouble standing or sitting up straight, make an appointment with a veterinarian.

    Panting

Panting is completely normal dog behavior. However, it is still useful to know the reason behind it. Dogs don’t sweat like people. To protect themselves from overheating or heatstroke, they must rely on the exchange of air in their mouths to cool their bodies. Nevertheless, you should try to keep your dog cool as this is not very effective. Other reasons for panting can be stress, anxiety, or fear. In this case, you should do your best to remove the dog from the situation to improve sensation. It can also be a sign of illness or injury. If panting seems to be a problem, seek advice from the veterinarian.

Sitting on your feet or between your legs

If your dog likes to sit on your feet or between your legs, that’s another sign of love and affection. It can also make them feel more secure when feeling anxious or nervous. They want to be closer to you and are just trying to deal with their feelings. They may also do this when meeting new people or other dogs. This way they show others that you are their human.

Credit Karma agrees to pay $3 million | Editorial

Did you apply for a credit card because Credit Karma said you were pre-approved, but were declined? If so, you may be entitled to compensation. No seriously. The Federal Trade Commission orders the credit monitoring service to pay users $3 million after shoving pre-approved fake credit cards on customers and damaging their credit. Nearly a third of Credit Karma users who applied for the pre-approved credit cards were later denied, following a credit check. According to a complaint filed by the FTC, the marketing efforts wasted consumers’ time and negatively impacted their credit scores. When a business launches a marketing campaign designed to trick customers into doing certain things, like applying for a pre-approved credit card, for example, they’re engaging in what’s called a “dark pattern.” According to a news article, the FTC cracks down on predatory practices that “harm consumers and pollute online commerce.” Credit Karma allegedly violated the Federal Trade Commission Act between February 2018 and April 2021, promoting products that consumers had a 90% chance of being approved or pre-approved for, but were ultimately turned down. This is an accusation that Credit Karma denies. The company said in a statement that it disagrees with the FTC’s claims, but has reached an agreement so it can start helping customers again, according to a report. According to Credit Karma’s statement, the company only gets paid when users are approved for things like credit cards. However, the FTC’s allegations focus on Credit Karma’s historical use of the term “pre-approved” for a small subset of personal loan and credit card offerings that were available on their website prior to April. 2021 and do not challenge the language of the approval ratings. the company has been supplying its customers ever since. As a result, Credit Karma has agreed to pay $3 million to the FTC, which will be sent to customers who have been harmed by Credit Karma’s predatory practices. The company will also stop misleading customers about credit offer approvals, which will be documented by an order requiring Credit Karma to keep records of its marketing efforts, according to the report. It’s unclear how many customers were affected by the “pre-approved” offers that turned out to be false, or how many each customer can expect to receive as part of the settlement. What Credit Karma has done is really no better than the practices that payday loans have engaged in – although the big difference is that the customers actually didn’t pay anyone any money; they just applied for a “promised” credit card or loan that was declined.

Alycia Baumgardner says she feels fear in Mikaela Mayer

Alycia Baumgardner liked to hit things growing up. The pint-sized dynamo was a great all-around athlete as a child. She dabbled in gymnastics, wrestling, softball, track and field and especially boxing, which she started at the age of eight. She had many cousins and she hung out with them. The 28-year-old isn’t intimidated.

So when she faced Ring, IBF and WBO junior lightweight titleholder Mikaela Mayer on Tuesday, Baumgardner, the WBC titleholder who is the Ring’s second junior lightweight, felt her bigger foe radiate with fear. The lightweight unification showdown will take place at the O2 Arena, London, England, this Saturday on ESPN (2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT) and on Sky Sports in the UK (7 p.m. GMT ).

Baumgardner’s (12-1, 7 KO) goal is to get within reach of Mayer and punish the 32-year-old to the body. The 5-foot-9 Mayer (17-0, 5 KO) will try to keep the 5-foot-6 Baumgardner on the outside at the end of his jab.

Baumgardner, known as “The Bomb”, feels she has several advantages over Mayer. Trust above all.

“It was a bit intense when we first met (Tuesday) and that told me where I belong,” said Baumgardner, who is trained by former WBC junior middleweight titlist Tony Harrison. , who works with Baumgardner in Detroit, Michigan. “It told me (also) that she’s scared, that she’s threatened, and it tells me that she knows she’s going to lose on Saturday. That’s all I needed to see. I go out of energy. She’s definitely nervous. Her body language told me that. I read people easily.

“She is 5-7 years old. She’s not 5-9. But I don’t care, 5-7, 5-9, 5-11. As a fighter, you adapt and she fights like a great fighter, which suits me better. She fights squarely. It’s perfect. Standing next to her, she wasn’t much taller than me.

Baumgardner is aware that Mayer is considered the “A side”, which doesn’t matter to her either. She has been in title fights before.

“It’s okay, I know what my mission is to beat her,” she said. “My fight against Terri Harper (when Baumgardner won the WBC belt by TKO 4) I was the ‘B-side’. That’s why I say it doesn’t matter. Look what happened to him I had a great camp for this fight. I’ve been fighting for 20 years. I feel like I’ve finished it all (Mayer). My technique, my experience, it’s a way of life for me. I have first wrestled when I was five. Boxing is something that got stuck. We made it a reality. My parents saw something special in me. I was a naturally gifted athlete, and my parents knew how to impose this on me.

Baumgardner feels like she faced and overcame adversity when she lost to Christina Linardatou by split decision in 2018 in an intense fight. She faced a 9-1 fighter, and Baumgardner still feels like she won. She says the loss doesn’t define her. She knows what it’s like to lose and what it’s like to take a two-year layoff (during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she underwent surgery to repair a partially torn ACL in the right knee that she was injured in a fight). She says Mayer is an “entitled” champion, who has never faced adversity.

Baumgardner hopes Mayer will come forward and commit. She says she’s ready for whatever Mayer brings.

“You’re going to see a fight,” she promised. “I know she has an amateur style, so she’s going to be on her bike all the time. For me it will be about cutting the ring and that means throwing my punches in bunches. If she wants to show up, we can make it a dogfight. I’m here to put her on the canvas and make sure she doesn’t get up. With this fight, you’re going to see someone get arrested.

“I gave her three options: her trainer is going to throw me in the towel, the ref is going to stop her or I knock her out. It’s going to be great. Everyone is going to enjoy it. I’m overweight. My weight is good. She looks like a raisin (laughs).

“Mayer’s face tells me she’s scared. My only plan is to keep moving forward and she’s on my way.

TikTok user Amir Anwary, who posts under @amirthevetuploaded a video showing his top picks.

The first was a poodle, and he explained, “They require a lot of grooming!

“However, they are fun, affectionate, intelligent and easy to train, which makes them a good first dog.

“In fact, they’re low-maintenance, even though they’re smart!”

The next was a boxer, and that also divided opinion.

Amir justified his choice by saying: “I love the Boxers! I’ve never had a bad one like never before.

“They’re also one of the only large breed dogs that doesn’t have a hunter personality.”

He also recommended Whippets, Golden Retrievers and King Charles Spaniels.

Amir then praised Labrador Retrievers and Springer Spaniels.

Although her video racked up 37,000 likes, it caused debate in the comments.

One said: “Boxers are not first-time dog owners. They are so prone to jumping and can be very stubborn in training.

Another added: “Not labs!! they are high energy and high maintenance to maintain a healthy weight. not good for new owners/families.”

However, one person commented, “People in the comments have never had difficult races and it shows.”

The Last of Us Part 1 team talks about Remake’s focus on the senses

    0

The last of us part 1 wasn’t the most popular game when it was announced earlier this summer, largely because people wondered how necessary it was and whether or not it was both a “money grab” and a grab for the upcoming HBO series based on the game starring Pedro Pascal. It is important to note this last part. However, Naughty Dog and others stepped in to defend the game for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was that the team put in a ton of work trying to make sure it was a remake also complete in terms of visuals, sound, and more. A new video from the team helps cement that fact and provides a bit more detail.

The team almost immediately admits that this remake was designed to intrigue the senses more than the original version. Some team members noted that when they created the original version, they “hit a limit”. They did everything they could with the PS3, and while it was stunning at the time, it wasn’t the “true vision” of gaming. So now, with two versions in terms of consoles and with the true power of the PS5 at their fingertips, they were able to do more, bring out more intricate details, and shine a light on how great the game still was. considered to be.

One of the best examples of this for them was easily in environments and facial animations. For environments, on the PS3 they did what they could, but they always had a limit on what they included. Also, with shading, they’re able to make it look more realistic at times, especially during cutscenes where lighting can be so important in helping the emotion of the scene itself.

As for the facial animations, the entire character model has been reworked for each character so that the facial animations are better fleshed out and more realistic. You will see many nuances in how the characters act, how they look at each other, how they react to certain things, etc.

If nothing else, you can definitely hear the team’s passion for the title and why this remake was important to them. They really feel that this game was meant to be something special on the PS3 and it was, but it wasn’t the “final release”. Now they are able to show it and they want people to appreciate the hard work and effort they put into making this game shine.

The last of us part 1 is available now on the PS5.

Growing up around animals, Paula Phillips developed a passion for grooming dogs. She made it her life’s work | Company

    0

Woman grooms black dog with clippers

Paula Phillips gives Rosie, a goldendoodle, a haircut recently at Shamrock Dog Grooming on Lyman Street in Pittsfield. “Most dogs in general love to be groomed,” she said. “They like to be pampered.”

PITTSFIELD – Tall and bushy, short or shaggy. Dogs come in all shapes and hairstyles, so learning to groom the different breeds of this highly varied species takes not only talent but also skill.

Paula Phillips knows how this blend of talent and skill goes together as she has been a dog groomer for several years. She and her husband, Tom, who live in Peru, own Shamrock Professional Dog Grooming, which has been in Pittsfield for 16 years. But Phillips’ background as a dog groomer goes back much further than that. It all started in his native Ireland, where Phillips grew up on a farm surrounded by animals.

We recently spoke with Phillips about her craft and here’s what she told us.

Q: How did you become a dog groomer?

A: I was born and raised in Ireland, grew up on a farm working with animals since I was 6 years old. As a young teenager, I worked at a kennel that bred springer spaniels. I got involved with them. They taught me to groom them, to prepare them for dog shows. It was my first introduction to grooming, and then it escalated from there.

Q: How old were you when you started grooming?

A: At the kennel, probably 14.

Q: How do you learn to do this work?

A: It is definitely a learned skill. There are schools where you can go to learn. After working in the kennels, I came here to the United States and apprenticed with a groomer. At the time, you were an apprentice for two years. You don’t get paid for it or anything, you are an apprentice and they teach you the skills. … That’s where I acquired a lot of knowledge, plus there was reading and my love for it.

Q: Where are you from in Ireland?

A: I come from Limerick. I came here in 1983. I met [my husband] here.

Q: Why did you come to the United States?

A: Because it was the land of opportunity. The Irish are always very adventurous. At the time, there wasn’t a lot of work there. What I have been able to do here with my business, I could not do in Ireland. … That’s why I call it the land of opportunity. (Paula first lived in New York, then ran a dog grooming business in New Jersey before coming to Pittsfield.)

Q: What is the most important part of dog grooming?

A: Bathing probably accounts for over 50% of the entire grooming and finishing process. If this is not done correctly, the groomer cannot do the best job possible.

Q: Why is it so important to bathe dogs first?

A: You always wash dogs before you groom them because you want them to be clean. You can make the best cut when the dog is clean.

Q: How long does it take to learn this skill really well?

A: It really depends on the groomer and their skills. Some people assimilate it and learn it and they just have a natural ability and have a dog [helps], too. It is not enough to pick up the scissors. It’s like a passion. … You have to love the animals as they come. When they come here, we get to know them.

Q: What to do do you mean by having the passion?

A: Just this absolute love for what you do. … We don’t just care for them. When someone gets their next pup, they’ll start over with me and I’ll take them to the end of their life. We are very sad when a dog dies. We actually shed tears. It’s very personal. They are part of our family here.

Q: What do you enjoy so much about working with animals?

woman and beagle pose at dog grooming store

Paula Phillips at her shop, Shamrock Dog Grooming, on Lyman Street in Pittsfield, with the shop’s mascot, Jack, a 12-year-old beagle.

A: I love their loyalty. They are always peers. Some dogs don’t like to be groomed. But when you have that passion and that skill, you learn how to work around certain dog behaviors. We ask a lot of questions.

We do walk-in nail trims. The first thing we ask at the door is does the dog like it? Does he need a muzzle? So, we’re getting a bit of history before we start diving into something we might regret. Even though we love dogs, they are animals. It is always our responsibility. They can’t tell us no, we don’t like it. Their way of letting us know is by pulling or maybe even pinching. So we have to be careful to protect ourselves from injury and the dog from injury.

That’s what I mean by passion. It’s learned, really learned, but you have to have the passion in yourself. The rest is a learning experience. You are always learning new products, new styles.

Q: You said earlier that grooming a dog is different from just picking up a pair of scissors. Can you describe what you mean by that?

A: You have to watch the dog. Right now we have a lot of mixed breeds. Let’s say a dog is a Maltese. Some people will want this dog to look more like a Maltese or more like a Bijon. So you have to learn all of these skills and styles of grooming.

Q: How do you learn all of these grooming styles?

A: You can go to grooming schools, read books, and train. Practice with all the different races and all the different personalities of those races.

Q: What is the hardest breed to groom?

A: I wouldn’t say there’s one that’s really difficult, but the ones you need help with are the bigger breeds. They don’t like to stand. They like to sit very much. You need help with these. You must have an assistant [help you] with these dogs for the safety of the dog and your own safety.

There are currently many products on the market where you can [hook] the dog on your table and help the dog pass. Maybe I’m just old school, but I’m not into it. And the reason why I don’t like it is because if there are too many things hanging on the table, the dog panics and there is also a risk. This other person is there to calm them down, relax them. I like it better this way.

Q: Which dogs are the easiest to groom?

A: I call them wash and wear. They’re just short-haired dogs, like a beagle, or a dog that doesn’t have a lot of hair like a labrador, or like a Jack Russell. … They don’t need so much care because their hair is short.

Woman grooms black dog with clippers

Paula Phillips grooms Rosie, a goldendoodle, at her shop, Shamrock Dog Grooming, on Lyman Street in Pittsfield. Phillips learned to groom dogs as a young teenager in her native Ireland.

Q: How difficult is it to untangle a dog’s fur before the grooming process begins?

A: We have had dogs that are completely matted. With these dogs, we can sometimes shave them. Other times, depending on the severity of the situation, if the dog’s mat is down to the skin, he will need to go to the vet. They should put him to sleep for a while because the hair is tangled so close to the skin that the risk of injury is great. As groomers, we do not calm any dog.

Q: How many times a year should a dog be groomed?

A: It depends on the breed and coat type. Six to eight weeks is a very, very common period in between. Trimming the nails every four or five weeks is good.

Q: How do most dogs react to grooming?

A: Most dogs generally like to be groomed. They love to be pampered. They appreciate it.

Sometimes they can be restless. They do not want to get up, they move away from their paws. But that’s where experience and passion come in. If you have someone with that passion and that mindset that loves grooming them and knows how to take care of dogs, knows what pressure to apply and when to stop, it’s all in a day’s work, let’s say.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a dog groomer?

A: I’ve talked so much about passion, but you have to want to do it. You can’t just say I’m going to groom myself because I want to make a lot of money or whatever. It must be in your heart. It must be something you want to do.

Do you want to adopt a breed of white dog? From smaller puppies like Bichon Frizes and Maltese, to larger dogs like Samoyeds, white dog breeds can appeal to a wide range of people.

“There are a number of dogs recognizable by their pure white coats – from long-haired to short-haired dogs, from large dogs to small dogs, to well-known popular breeds and more vulnerable breeds that you may not have known. -be never met before”, The dog club recount country life.

When choosing a dog, the Kennel Club emphasizes that color is not the most important factor. “Their color is not an indicator of their suitability for your lifestyle, with aspects such as their temperament, size and exercise needs playing a much larger role. Individual dogs also have their own unique and variable traits. , and there are many other factors that can shape a dog’s character.”

Even though many dogs could potentially have white puppies, there are a number of breeds that are only available in white. These are the dog breeds that are listed below.

How to groom and care for a white dog breed?

Veterinarian, writer and television personality, Rory Cowlam, says, “As for the general grooming and care of Caucasian dogs, I generally don’t like to wash them too regularly – any more than every three to four weeks as that can dry out the skin. It is also important to avoid using harsh chemicals.

How to Avoid Tear Stains on a White Dog

“Tear staining occurs in a number of breeds, primarily small, fluffy-faced breeds and brachycephalic dogs,” Rory explains. But it can sometimes be more noticeable on white dog breeds.

There are, however, three main ways to keep tear stains at bay:

    • Keep facial hair trimmed
    • Wipe away tears and scabs with dog-approved face wipes or pre-boiled cooled water
    • Make sure your dog has no underlying skin issues, such as food allergies or intolerances, which could inflame the skin

Part of the toy group of small dogs, the name Bichon Frize refers to the curly white corkscrew coat the breed is known for.

An excellent companion dog, they are happy, outgoing puppies who enjoy spending time alongside their owner. “Their minimal shedding coats can make them suitable for all types of families and households, although their coats do require daily grooming,” recommends the Kennel Club.

Native to Arctic Siberia, the strong, intelligent, and affectionate Samoyed is well suited to colder climates thanks to its double coat and flat feet, sometimes compared to snowshoes.

If you ever find yourself walking one in the snow, you’ll notice that the thick hair between their paws prevents snow from building up like on the paws of other puppies.

      West Highland White Terrier

Affectionately known as the “Westies”, the West Highland White Terrier is one of the most popular breeds of the terrier breed. These small but spunky dogs are “self-sufficient but friendly,” according to The dog club.

Due to their size, they would fit well in a multitude of different homes, from compact flats or apartments to larger homes. They are, however, active and need about an hour of exercise a day.

This popular Japanese breed has a lush white coat, which is why it will require daily grooming. He is another affectionate pup who would make a great companion thanks to his loving nature.

Small to medium sized dogs are also loyal and obedient, as well as being good with young children and other dogs.

Also part of the Bichon family, the Bolognese takes its name from the Italian city of Bologna, where the breed first gained popularity.

With a distinctive coat, almost frizzy instead of curly, he may be reserved with strangers, but once he gets to know you, he’s a friendly and affable pup.

Another toy breed that would be more than happy to be a pampered companion dog, the Maltese’s luxurious coat also makes them a favorite at dog shows.

For this reason, they should be groomed daily to avoid any knots or tangles in their fur. They are also gentle and intelligent in nature.

This tall, majestic white shepherd has a thick, tight undercoat, especially in winter, and is “brave but not aggressive,” as well as lively and intelligent, according to The dog club.

Due to their size, they would be best suited to a larger home with plenty of outdoor space for them to run around.

Another member of the Bichon family, this small toy breed is known as the “Royal Dog of Madagascar”, having been seen on the island of Tula for several centuries.

“‘Cotton’ refers to the breed’s characteristic coat texture which is predominantly white, but can sometimes be seen with slight shades of light gray or fawn on the ears,” explains the Kennel Club. Requiring daily grooming, they are both lively and loyal.

      Swiss white shepherd

Popular “in many countries, not only as a show dog, but as a companion where his devotion to his owners, his intelligence and his trainability have endeared him to many”, The dog club confirmed.

They also have two different coat types, medium or long haired and are never shy or aggressive, making them great family pets thanks to their friendly temperaments.

Growing up around animals, Paula Phillips developed a passion for dog grooming.

If you have someone with that passion and that mindset that loves grooming them and knows how to take care of dogs, knows what pressure to apply and when stop, it’s all in a day’s work, let’s say.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a dog groomer?

A: I’ve talked so much about passion, but you have to want to do it. You can’t just say I’m going to groom myself because I want to make a lot of money or whatever. It must be in your heart. It must be something you want to do.

The Luxurious Life of Dogs in Japan: Dog Grooming

      0

Japan seems enthusiastic when it comes to spending on pets. Specifically, the culture of dog grooming, with breeds such as the Miniature Poodle. Dog fashion events can be seen advertised to be held until April 2023. And in 2020, Japanese dog owners in general claimed to have spent more than 3,000¥3,000 JPY ($21) each month on grooming for their dogs.

Mako Wade is the owner of a Toy Poodle named Gali. She claims to spend between “¥9,000 to ¥18,000 JPY ($65 to $130 USD) for monthly grooming, depending on the salon.” She even recalls buying a fashionable winter coat from Green Dog “costing around ¥10,000” ($72).

Gali has even been to a “training school that also offers dog hotel service for ¥7,000-9,000 ($50-$65 USD) a night.”

Japan has a great abundance of smaller, purebred dogs, so it’s no surprise that the services are so popular and expensive, but what makes these treatments so special?

      What do grooming visits involve?

This month, Gali was taken to Doggie-Do in Azabu for her grooming session.

He received a basic package including a shampoo session, a haircut and a final shampoo session, for a total of 16,500 yen ($119).

So what makes a plan more expensive? “There are grooming packages, and the number of treatments in the package will increase if it’s an expensive package,” says Gali groomer Miss A.

Miss A elaborates. “For example, take the shampoo. We can use sparkling water to wash the dog. There are conditioning treatments, facial masks and massages. As the package gets bigger, the price goes up because of the time and processing that goes into it.”

For his basic package, Gali was treated for about 3 hours. Wade even received a card with his photo after the last session, along with service details such as the date, type of treatment and his dog’s weight.

The dog breeds that come to the Doggie-Do store for grooming “depends on where the store is located,” says Miss A. “For this location, I see a majority of Poodles and mixed breeds such as the Maltese Poodle mix and the chihuahua poodle. mix.”

Miss A qualifies her answer, however. “It will be different depending on the location of the store in Japan, or even other stores in Minato Ward. The breed that is becoming popular is the poodle and the bichon,” she explains.

      Safe and enjoyable grooming

Aside from the feeling of relief for owner and dog after a grooming session, what makes groomers love working on dogs like Gali and others?

“When a dog comes in every month and the fur is long, the moment it’s groomed and trimmed, there’s a transformation, and I love seeing that transformation,” says Miss A, adding: “Also, I can see the different characters of each dog and get to know them.

Occasionally there is cause for concern if a certain style of grooming is necessary or even harmful to the dog. However, Miss A says a groomer ‘will examine the condition and condition of the dog’s scalp when they come in. When an owner comes in and wants to do something that is not in line with the coat and the condition of the dog, we will refuse it. However, she adds: “On the other hand, if there is something that we want to encourage because of the condition of the dog, we will recommend it”.

In Gali’s case, he got an extra shave on his face and sideburns to keep him cleaner at Wade’s request. The cost: an additional ¥800 JPY (5 USD).

How do you become a groomer anyway?

Saya Shimai attended Aoyama Kennel School on weekends starting in 2018 and graduated in 2020.

She recalls that the selection process was easy, with “no difficulty in being selected to enter the school. I had to say why I wanted to become a groomer and go to school. Shimai says she wanted to go to school because of her love for dogs.

Currently, she grooms her own dog, a miniature dachshund, “as well as Gali and another miniature dachshund,” she says.

Shimai explained the main teachings of the grooming school. “Each session I had to take care of at least one dog, starting with shampooing and brushing, followed by another session of shampooing, nail trimming and ear cleaning, and finally , a full body cut.And sometimes decorations with ribbons.

The required course content included “48 different subjects to learn and each subject lasted approximately 60-90 minutes”.

      1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" class="lazyload" data-sizes="auto" data-srcset="data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=75&resize=75 75w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=100&resize=100 100w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=150&resize=150 150w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=240&resize=240 240w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=320&resize=320 320w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=500&resize=500 500w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=640&resize=640 640w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=800&resize=800 800w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=1024&resize=1024 1024w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=1280&resize=1280 1280w, data:image/svg xml, 1024w?w=1600&resize=1600 1600w" data-src="https://japan-forward.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Saya-Shimai-1024x719.jpeg"/>

During training, Shimai recalls spending “four to five hours” in each session with a dog, during which “a teacher would come in periodically to step in and teach me skills.”

She goes on to explain the different certificates you can earn in school. “The lowest license is a ‘C’, where people can wash dogs after 47 hours of training and 12 registered dogs.”

A ‘B’ license, she tells us, “means you can wash and clip a dog’s hair, [after training for] 155 hours and 33 dogs registered.

Very specifically, “An ‘A’ license means you can cut and dry a Toy Poodle’s hair, which is the hardest because it’s curly, with 132 hours [of training] and 32 registered dogs.

      Take your dog for grooming

Of course, there are countless dog groomers in Japan, with a variety of price tags. The point to remember is to be prepared to spend money on grooming your dog and choose a hairstyle that will benefit your dog.

If you have a poodle of any kind, Shimai points out current trends. “A style that is in fashion today is the round head shape where the hair on the head is left in place. But the fur gets tangled and hurts because it is long, so I don’t recommend it .

She goes on, however, to say, “If they are home brushed and groomed, (the round head shape) is okay,” reminding owners that caring for your dogs outside of the salon is just as important as grooming. professional.

How to get payday loans online with instant approval and no credit check?

With loans without a credit check, borrowers can be allowed to obtain a personal loan without the usual credit checks. Banks and other traditional lenders frequently perform rigorous credit checks to assess a borrower’s creditworthiness.

A thorough credit check includes reviewing borrowing and repayment history, defaults, late payments, and other important documents. You often won’t qualify for traditional loan products if you have a poor credit score, a history of missing payments, defaults, and underutilization of your credit limits.

A “soft credit check“, which takes into account non-credit score variables, is required for loans without a credit check. The lenders who offer these loans make inquiries about borrowers’ repayment history, past due loans to other businesses, and current work and income situations.

How do no credit check loans work?

PaydayChampion is a place where you can get a loan online without checking your credit. Filling out an application is easy. When you work with a state-of-the-art lender, your loan application can be approved in hours or even minutes. If you need money right away, you can often apply for a loan online and get the money the same day.

You must provide information about your employment and bank accounts in order to qualify for a loan (to verify your income). The loan amount and terms you are eligible for are determined by online direct lenders using this information, your recent payment history and your total credit usage.

What are the types of loans without credit check

Payday loans and personal loans are the only two categories of loans that direct lenders offer without requiring rigorous checks.

      Payday loans

Inside the Rise of Expensive Pawnbrokers – and Affordable Alternatives

IF money is tight, you may have considered pawning something valuable.

It can be jewelry, a watch or a handbag.

      1

We investigate pawnbrokers and provide advice on affordable alternatives

The cost of living crisis has seen a boom in pawnbroking – where money is made available in exchange for something of value which, if repayment is not met, can be sold.

But experts warn that loans are expensive, and if you can’t repay the debt, you could lose something of sentimental value.

This week, Sun Money investigates these loans and provides advice on affordable alternatives.

      EXPENSIVE RATES

YOU could end up paying back hundreds of pounds in interest. Three of the UK’s largest pawnbrokers, Cash Converters, Ramsdens and H&T, charge between 118.8% and 119.9% annually.

Exact code to spot for first installment £650 payment landing in bank accounts
Exact date 1.1million families will receive first payment of £326 for cost of living

This means that if you take out a loan of £500 over six months, you will have to repay £299 in interest or £799 in total, at a rate of 119.9%.

The loans are much more expensive than those from the big banks, but cheaper than payday loans.

Many quote a monthly or daily interest rate, but they must also state the annual rate.

Often you can only borrow a percentage of an item. For example, if your ring was worth £200, you might only be able to borrow £100. Sometimes you have to repay the loan in one installment.

A spokesperson for H&T said: “We serve customers who are unable to raise funds in the traditional bank credit system, or who need a low value short-term loan to meet a need immediate funding.”

      AFFORDABILITY FEARS

Pawnbrokers do not perform credit checks. This can be an advantage if you have bad credit, but it means there is no collateral to ensure you can afford the loan.

Debt adviser Sara Williams of Debt Camel said: ‘Some people find they are repurchasing an item but it has left them with so much money they have to pawn it again in a few weeks.

“A one-time convenience can turn into a long-lasting nightmare, especially if you pawn jewelry with sentimental value.”

A spokesman for the Financial Conduct Authority said: ‘We have reformed the market to help borrowers avoid getting into debt and have been clear with lenders about the need to support customers in times of difficulty.

“We will take action if companies fail to meet their obligations.”

IF YOU DO NOT REPAY THE LOAN

If you repay on time, you can get the pawned item back. But you must keep the receipt.

If you lose it and the item is over £75, you will have to pay a fee to have a magistrate or commissioner for oaths swear the goods are yours. If you can’t repay the loan, the item is sold.

James Daley of Fairer Finance said: ‘Avoid pawning any item with high sentimental value unless you are confident in your ability to repay.

If your item is resold, you should receive all the extra money the pawnbroker receives – on top of what was offered to you.

James adds: “In the past, pawnbrokers have failed to reunite customers with this extra money.

“So if you’re pawning something and it’s sold, check how much it sold for and find out what money is owed to you.”

      AFFORDABLE ALTERNATIVES

If you need to borrow money, consider other options. Remember that emergency credit should only be used in extreme circumstances, such as to pay a priority bill or if your car breaks down.

If you have a low income or bad credit, you may find it difficult to qualify for the higher loan rates. This is why affordable alternatives are important.

First, try to get some free money in the form of grants. If you are on benefits, talk to your work coach about the Household Support Fund. Or ask your local council if they can help you.

Or Jane Tully of MoneyAdviceTrust, suggests, “Credit unions often offer a range of affordable products at cheaper rates and there’s a cap on how much interest they can charge.”

If you’re having trouble paying a bill, talk to your provider.

Use Turn2Us to search for grants or talk to End Furniture Poverty, if you need furniture or a new fridge-freezer, for example.
