A pet owner tested her dog’s senses in a very cute video.
Jasper, TikToker’s cocker spaniel @blackwings_wolf, has been blind since he was 3 years old and only recently started losing his hearing. Nonetheless, she says her dog is happy and healthy and only gets “disoriented” after a nap or when excited.
She wanted to see how well Jasper was adjusting to his new state, so she specifically engaged with him when he had just woken up.
“Jasper is blind and going deaf. He just woke up from a nap and is a little disoriented,” the text of the video reads.
The pet’s owner had just come home from work, but Jasper hadn’t realized she was there. To test her senses, instead of getting the dog’s attention, she waited for him to find her.
Unfortunately, Jasper was struggling. It took her a while to realize she was home. The dog sniffed around, sensing frantically “something is different,” but he didn’t know what.
Jasper knew she was home when he felt some of her clothes on the floor. He started wagging his tail enthusiastically. In order to get his attention, she hissed, which is one of the only audible sounds for him.
“The response isn’t great,” she said of the test results in the caption.
“It’s the fact that he got close to my feet and still didn’t realize it. I was sure it was going to get into my leg,” she added in the comments.
But she explained that everyday life isn’t that difficult for Jasper. She and her companion rarely leave the dog home alone. They never move the furniture, so he has his house “mapped” with his walking routes.
“We take him wherever we can if we have to go out. He loves exploring beaches – he gets some serious zooms! ” she says.
TikTokers sent their love to Jasper and the video has been viewed over 700,000 times.
“Oh bless her heart,” wrote one user.
“He’s a cute one. My dog is deaf too and our Pom is blind. We have a special baby house,” another said.
“He’s probably confused because he’s not deaf or blind in his dreams I think,” one TikToker said.
