It seems like an odd time for something so obscenely silly, but HBO Max has announced its latest unscripted commission – a dog grooming contest, tentatively titled Hot dog.
The 12-episode, half-hour series, which will feature three dog groomers facing challenges for all kinds of breeds, is inspired by social platforms and coffee table book groomer Jess Rona. Rona will lead a jury and the show will also feature commentary from famous guests and a host that has yet to be announced.
âJess Rona has made a name for herself as a celebrity dog ââgroomer and it’s so fun to be able to bring her amazingly successful brand and online business to life in this way,â Jennifer O’Connell, vice -executive president of HBO Max. Original non-fiction and children’s programming, said in a statement Friday. “Expect a pure escape the whole family can watch together and cheer on their favorite dog with the most fabulous and creative trans-fur-mations.”
The series hails from Jax Media and Nicolle Yaron (do it). Notably, it’s another unscripted effort from Jax, who made a name for himself with scripted comedy (Russian Doll, Broad City, Young, Search Party).
âWe are very happy to be working with Nicolle, Jess and HBO Max on this very important project,â said Jax Media partners Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Brooke Posch and John Skidmore. âThere’s no better time to watch a dog take a bath than now. “
