TikTok user Amir Anwary, who posts under @amirthevetuploaded a video showing his top picks.
The first was a poodle, and he explained, “They require a lot of grooming!
“However, they are fun, affectionate, intelligent and easy to train, which makes them a good first dog.
“In fact, they’re low-maintenance, even though they’re smart!”
The next was a boxer, and that also divided opinion.
Amir justified his choice by saying: “I love the Boxers! I’ve never had a bad one like never before.
“They’re also one of the only large breed dogs that doesn’t have a hunter personality.”
He also recommended Whippets, Golden Retrievers and King Charles Spaniels.
Amir then praised Labrador Retrievers and Springer Spaniels.
Although her video racked up 37,000 likes, it caused debate in the comments.
One said: “Boxers are not first-time dog owners. They are so prone to jumping and can be very stubborn in training.
Another added: “Not labs!! they are high energy and high maintenance to maintain a healthy weight. not good for new owners/families.”
However, one person commented, “People in the comments have never had difficult races and it shows.”
