If you’re a pet owner, chances are your furry friend needs a makeover. Just like humans, pets thrive when properly groomed, and with so many grooming options these days, it’s easy to find the right one for you.
But which is better: a mobile groomer or a physical store? For pets that like to ride in the car, visiting a salon may be your best bet. Lindsey Snyder opened Lindsey’s Groom Room in Kings Park in 2010.
“I opened my shop specifically to work with rescues and biting dogs,” says Snyder. “We accept all babies, whether they like to groom themselves or have had negative experiences in the past.”
Benefits of visiting a salon can include lower prices, availability to watch your pet, ease of appointment availability, and the benefit of having multiple staff in case an animal needs attention. particular during grooming, which is much safer for a biting or frightened animal.
There are also options for animals that become stressed around other animals. In this case, pet owners may consider home grooming. Known as Mitch the Groomer, Mitch Smith of Plainview started grooming dogs at his home in 2020.
“I was working as a photographer taking action shots of my neighbor’s dog when I suggested a haircut to help make the pup more photogenic,” says Smith. Because he had his own dogs and knew basic grooming skills, they asked him to help demote their dog, which he did. “They were so thrilled with the results that they shared the photos and story on Facebook, and my phone hasn’t stopped ringing ever since,” Smith says. Clients who see Mitch in his home have no wait times, see no other pets, and enjoy a quiet, secluded space.
And for some, mobile grooming is the way to go. Nikki Fiore of PURRcise Grooming has been making pets look better since she was 17. Mobile groomers provide the convenience of grooming your pet at home or in the groomer’s mobile unit. This is especially convenient for people who don’t have transportation options or have a pet that doesn’t like to travel.
“Home grooming is a great experience for both owner and dog because the work is done in such a familiar environment,” says Fiore. Mobile grooming provides a personal experience for everyone involved and can even be done outside in the warmer months.
