DAEJEON, July 1 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korea Standards and Science Research Institute said on Wednesday it had developed a smart fire detector that can report a fire within 10 seconds of ignition.
The detector can accurately detect even a small flame with a size of 3 centimeters, and trigger an alarm or send an alert message via a smartphone app.
Since it can check the flame location coordinates, it can automatically extinguish the flame if it is connected to extinguishing equipment.
Existing fire detectors can detect the second stage of the fire, about a minute after ignition, limiting the chances that the fire will go out quickly and people can escape.
The newly developed smart fire detector has an error alarm rate of less than 3 percent, well below the 34 to 50 percent typical of existing smoke and heat detectors.
The research team improved the flame detection rate by using convergence-type detection technology that combines the strengths of infrared ray sensors and infrared thermal graphic sensors.
In addition, using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and an infrared thermal graphic camera, the new fire detector can recognize people and flames at the same time, and is therefore able to discern whether the flame is used by one person or another. which could cause a fire.
