A Filipino veterinarian urged pet owners to feed their dogs a healthy, balanced diet, as this is crucial for their growth and development.
Dr Saza Curaming, technical advisor of Mars Petcare Nutrition, said that with dog ownership comes greater responsibilities.
âWhatever stage of life, a dog will need the regular attention of its owner and a healthy diet to develop properly. Good nutrition is as important to your dog’s health as it is to yours, but their nutritional needs are very different, âshe said in a statement.
Curaming added that equipping dogs with proper nutrition should start from the moment of conception.
âIt starts when the mother is pregnant because she can pass on the right nutrients to the puppies. Pregnant and lactating bitches need high-quality, nutrient-dense pet foods formulated for all stages of life for growth, âshe said.
The vet pointed out that “a dog’s behavior can be determined by several factors such as breed, socialization, environment and health.”
âSmall breeds and large breeds have different nutritional needs. [F]Feeding your pet nutritious foods appropriate for their age and size will help them develop socializing skills and behaviors that allow them to have long and meaningful lives, âshe said.
The pet care service provider and pet food manufacturer recently partnered with the Animal Kingdom Foundation, Inc., a non-governmental animal welfare organization.
They started an online pet education program called “Peptalk“as part of their”Better cities for petsWhich aims to create pet friendly communities for all dogs and cats.
Having a dog in the home helps humans “have healthier physiological responses to stress, lower levels of loneliness and isolation, and better overall heart health,” according to research by the Waltham Petcare Science Institute.
